I’m 250lbs and was running 32psi in the Whistler bike park on a tacky Chan super gravity. Got some pings but not a ton, have carbon time so I don’t worry about it as much, but I also hop around more than smash

32 front and rear? Im 210 ish, looks like I'm gonna need more pressure. For those that have run SG and SDH, does the SDH have a lot more casing damping than the SG?

sorry should have specified. 27psi front on a specialized cannibal grid gravity (only pinged that one once), and 32psi on a super gravity ultrashort tacky chan. I’ve tried continental DH, specialized grid gravity, and now schwalbe super gravity all as rear tire casings. All come in similar weight and I can’t tell much difference between them. All run at about the same pressure (30-32psi depending on the terrain), and all ping in the right circumstances

Awesome thanks! How do you like the cannibal? It’s one of the few I haven’t tried yet. Have you only run it as a front?

I haven’t run SDH, but that sounds like the general consensus.
I wouldn’t be able to stomach the weight of the SDH. super gravity is already over stated weight at around 1350g for a 29x2.4, I’d assume the SDH is probably

yep only as a front so far, I like it a lot. I think more so than the conti kryp F DH SS. Will run it as a rear as well once it gets a bit sloppier in the winter I think. Have a buddy who runs them front and rear and loves them, seem to not have the knob tearing issues that the butcher/eliminator have

I just tried the Chan super soft trail on the back of the bike. It is the most painful tire to pedal up gravel that I can recall. It's really good downhill though. The low volume seems to rely on side knobs flex rather than casing flex for traction, and the side knobs are strong. I do not like foldy cornering knobs. I'm a big fan of it as a back tire as long as I don't have to pedal it up.

I did not like it as a front tire, too low volume. I prefer magic Mary super soft trail or dhf maxxgrip.

How does the Tacky Chan compare to the Maxis DHR? Currently running Assegai Maxxgrip in the front and DHR Maxterra in the back; considering switching to Schwalbe Magic Marry ultra soft in the front and Tachy Chan ultra soft in the rear.
Would this tire combo work similarly to my current one? I am primarily looking for grips and trying out different tire casings.
I have access to great deals on Magic Marry and Tacky Chan.

Which casing are you using now and which one do you want to get with Magic Mary and Tacky Chan?

It depends on the conditions you are riding, but in general they are much better. Compared to DHR, Tacky Chan has less rolling resistance and the UltraSoft compound will give you grip for days, but it won't last as long in the rear, instead it's better to have a soft compound.

This is the combo I’m currently running. Both supertrail casing. By comparison, the MM/TC combo is faster rolling and has as much or more cornering grip. I actually prefer the NN in the rear to the TC. Rolls faster and the slight trade-off in cornering and braking grip doesn’t affect my speed or comfort level for most situations. But yeah, the Schwalbe combo is a step up from Maxxis for sure.

I am looking for the enduro casing with the Magic Marry and the downhill with the Tacky Chan. I currently use Exo+ casing on my Assegai and DD casing on my DHR. I do not mind the ultra soft compound in the rear because I can get the tires for 70CAD each.

I am primarily interested in upgrading the casing because I severely dented my rear wheel last month while using the DD casing at 25 PSI and do not want to deal with insert installation.
I weigh 180 pounds fully equipped, and my Light Ebike weighs 45 pounds.

Thank you for your reply, it was exactly what I was looking for. I do not mind the rolling resistance because I am riding an ebike, I am primarily interested in downhill performance.

Yes, I have a TC ultra soft super trail. It's a solid tire, I like it far better than the Dissector. But it doesn't have the same outright braking traction of other rear tires I have ridden (like the Big Betty and the Kryptotal rear).

It pedals better than those tires though and seems to be faster all around.

It's not my first choice for pure braking traction / DH performance.

In that case, Magic Mary SuperGravity and Tacky Chan SuperDH with UltraSoft compound will be a good upgrade over the tires you’re currently using.

You should also consider Magic Mary as a rear tire if you ride mostly in mixed conditions.

We must be riding in different conditions. In dry loose over hard, braking performance seems pretty equal versus both DHR and Conti KRR.
