Just got a new 27.5 wheel laced up to mullet my bike from stock 29.

Went to move my cassette from the old wheel to the new when I saw that all the drive side of the notches on the cassette are pounded out. Very annoying as the teeth on each sprocket are in good condition (I'm pretty prompt about swapping out chains at 0.5).



I'm pretty committed at this point. My GX shifter is brand new, derailleur was replaced last year and the wheel hub is obviously brand new as well. I also have an X01 chain bnib ready to go. If I knew this was coming I would have got an XD driver or swapped everything to XT Linkglide before I replaced the rest of the drivetrain.

What options are out there?

SX PG-1210 is what I have now.

NX PG-1230 would work and shave a bit of weight.

SunRace CSMZ90 WA5 should also work I think, shaves a bit more weight, costs a bit more.

Any other options? Could anyone compare the NX to the CSMZ?

All I know is the NX SRAM (HG) cassette I had was very heavy. Functionally it was OK.
According to this it's 100g less than what I have 😅

Yup. Have both for a Zwift queen. The CSMZ is lighter and of more-impressive construction, but rougher-spinning on the small cogs. Which is why PG-1230 lives on the trainer and the CSMZ goes on the vintage Chris King Classic on the wheel that will rarely ever go on the bike.

PS - only of relevance to an indoor trainer, the pins that hold the PC-1230 together protrude farther toward the wheel-side. If you have clearance issues (eg. putting a 12sp cassette on a nominal 11sp-compatible trainer), this might be something you need to be aware of. The CSMZ's pins sit flush with the biggest cog.

I've had good results with the sunrace 12sp series.
They lasted longer than the NX ones they replaced, hence I'm running them on all my bikes now.
Do you find the shifting comparable/as good/better than NX?
Have you noticed the "rougher spinning" @DtEW mentioned?

Well XO1/XX1 aren't really relevant as they're not HG. Unless they can change freehubs.
I'm not interested in changing the hub at this point. With all the sales going on right now, selling my bike and replacing it in the spring would have ended up being almost cheaper than the repairs/upgrades. Finding the "internals" of my cassette are toast when it otherwise seems to shift and pedal just fine is already a kick in the teeth.

Don't care too much about a trainer. And really I care more about the climbing gears as that's where I'm most often pedaling. Just how rough are the smaller cofs, and is it just the 11 and 13 or the bottom half of the cassette?
 
The finish on the Sunrace 903 is very slick, looks better than my old XO cassettes IMO. Shifting basically feels the the same as M8100, I've never used 12s SRAM.
 
The Sunrace has 6 or 7 cogs on a spider. The NX only 2. That alone speaks for Sunrace. Plus a more smooth transition from 1st to 2nd gear.

Plus anything NX only lasts the demo ride. I've never seen chain and cassettes wearing as fast as NX.
 
I just wish SunRace or other manufacturers would build a cassette that fits onto a XD driver that is Shimano compatible and a cassette that fits on a Spline drive that is Sram/ Sram Transmission compatible. Maybe they do exist, I haven't seen one. Please list here if there is.

I've used SunRace cassettes in the past, 10spd and 11spd and they shifted fine and held up for a good amount of miles.
 
Top two gears from both brands are 42-50 from what I can tell?
Sunrace is bad listing specs. But I owned the NX with the large gap. The Sunrace has a closer gap.
But my SR cassette is old with only one Al cog. Now they only seem to have all steel or 3 Al cogs. Maybe it changed.

Anyway, the NX chain wore down to 0.5℅ quickly. And after the first chain, the shifting on cassette was bad. Good riddance. I've used the cheapest Shimano and KMC stuff for many decades. Nothing wore as fast as 11 and 12 speed NX stuff that came on bikes.

But definitely look for the spider. That helps preventing cogs cutting into the freehub body.

Edit: my cassette is 12-51t. Their 11-50 might use different spacing.

I contribute with both an eye toward answering the present inquiry and contributing to the knowledge base for any future searchers looking to mine esoteric info/opinions. Some people might care about trainers.

I don’t have it on anything to test right now, so that’s the extent of what I can recall from memory when I made my judgement. They’re all very cheap cassettes. Just buy them both and contribute to the knowledge base.

Wheelandsprocket ebay store sells all these except the shifter. The shifter came from some chinese seller, with an optislick cable, but the shipper kinked it by stuffing it into packaging a bit too tightly. Not sure if the DuraAce has anything special over the XT/Ultegra chain, like extra chromizing.

Shifting is as good if not slightly better.
(So barely noticeable if at all tbh)

I'm not one to sit and spin, I ride at lower cadences and just use brute force when needed.
But I've never noticed any roughness using the sunrace cassettes.

You would still need a chainring (if not a whole crankset) for that? In any case the shipping from that eBay seller to Canada makes it moot. Like I said in the OP had I known this would happen before I replaced the shifter and bought an x01 chain (which I'll now wait to install until the cassette arrives) I would have switched to Shimano but at this point I'm committed by sunk cost.
 
I really like NX Eagle cassettes. They run smooth and quiet and last for a long time. Pair it with an X01 chain and you have a super durable setup that doesn't cost a fortune.

One of my NX cassettes has ~4500kms on it and it's still going.

Too late now. But you can use SRAM RD on Shimano cassette unless you have the old style from 50t casettes. The new ones do 52t and can use the 51t of Shimano cassettes. With Sunrace it is unofficial anyway.

I don't know why someone suggests what looks like 10 speed drivetrains if OP asked about 12 speed.

My other bike has actual Shimano HG+ cassette and that is even much nicer than Sunrace with the exact same RD, shifter, and chain. Especially under load. That HG+ is a real thing, not just marketing.
