I'd appreciate any information on the smoke situation in Revvy and Golden for the coming weeks. Thanks much!

While BC experienced a very low snow year during the winter, May and June were very wet and cold. That delayed most wildfire threats in the south. As of right now, things are still pretty green in the Kootenays, and few wildfires have kicked off. However since July 1st, the weather has changed dramatically with consistent sunny and warm (>30C) weather. Things are progressing rapidly, and expected to change given the long range forecast.

As mentioned, keep an eye on the smoke forecast. Nothing is guaranteed, but my prediction is that most likely we have a couple more weeks before things really start kicking off in the southern interior in terms of fire, and similarly, nothing more broadly is suggesting widespread issues and smoke in July.

If these sunny 30-40 degree days continue, August could be a completely different story.

Well, I may have cursed myself by writing that last night.

Big lighting storm this evening, and lots of starts in the Kootenays from what it looks like. With the 7 day forecast hot and dry, with weather close to 40 degrees, we'll see how these progress. Hopefully it was a pretty localized storm.

The Cascades here got hit with the lightning too with some new fires.

I was across the valley from you. Did Martha creek. It is a long climb to top but the descent is absolutely worth it.
I’d love to ride with you, but I have no doubt that I would be holding you up. I’m sure that you could test my legs off on the climbs.

I will be in Revy next weekend. Send me a PM if you are around and want to do a pedal. I am coming off of Covid, so my climbing legs are far from spectacular.

I’m in Golden now and will be heading home next Tuesday. I would love to ride with you at some point. I need to work on my fitness first. It’s odd, I don’t think I’m riding nearly as strong as I was at the start of the season. I don’t know what’s up with my body. Maybe too much forest fire smoke.

Heat! It makes you feel absolutely terrible. It was cool here today and I felt really good for the first time in weeks.

I am super chill ride with. I have absolute no problems climbing at an easy pace.
