Gen 2 Mara shocks just dropped.

Notched air-cans across the range.
XC models with single-layer air-cans.
Rest of them all have dual-layer king-cans.
New Pro inline with rebound detents.
New Comp inline with lower price, plastic knobs and solid IFP.
New ace/deuce remote which is stackable to work with forks, shocks and droppers.

Looks like a solid update

Are the dampers and tunes the same as before? Dougal, are you still going to be offering Pick & Mix tuning kits for them?
Yes. Damper dimensions are unchanged so Pick & Mix is compatible.

How will the notch change the characteristics of the shock?

Will the new notched air cans be backwards compatible with older Mara Inlines? That would be sweet.

So tonight I was able to reset…. When I first installed it 3 months ago it was very difficult due to the tight tolerance between the trunion mounts. The OEM DPS and DVO Topaz were extremely easy to install in comparison.

I tried for several hours to try resetting the can without removing the trunnion mounts and I was unsuccessful. The entire shock has to be removed from the frame (in my case) which is very time consuming.

In my case that’s a MAJOR flaw that Manitou should address. It’s a shame because it’s a very good shock but it’s not good “enough” to warrant a complete removal every 3 months…

I am very disappointed this evening to say the least because I was happy with the shock. But in reality it’s not that much better than my DVO Topaz. I would absolutely stick with it if it weren’t for the reset.
The main problems(besides the hassle required to reset it while having a remote attached) with the negative air chamber leaking is how the performance degrades over time combined with the eye-2-eye length increasing - thereby changing the geometry of the bike.
What I do to help lengthen the time between resets is to remove the air from the main chamber so it’s not compressing the negative chamber if I’m not going to use a particular bike for a while. That way, i can let it sit practically indefinitely without needing to reset. Otherwise just sitting there it will need to be reset after a few months - even without riding it one time. I really like this shock, but that’s a PITA part that sucks! It’s one thing doing regular maintenance; another thing altogether needing to do that reset when you haven’t even ridden the bike. Maybe better seals would help.

I recently created this tool to help with the reset so i don’t need to remove the remote cable. The cable fits in that slot….

Do you have to order hardware kit for the shock separately to set them up for a remote? dont see a remote version listed anywhere..

I was wondering the same. Does this notch eliminate the negative air chamber reset? Also, does this mean that eye-2-eye/stroke lengths cannot be reduced?

I really like that both chambers volumes can be dialed 👍🏼
No more resets, but no more easy E2E changes either.

I actually don't mind having to do an air can reset every 3 months or so. Its quick and easy and can be done in less than 10 minutes and it gives the opportunity to smear some lube on seals which ensures my shock always runs buttery smooth.
Equalization is a problem if you ride a lot, do a lot of altitude and temp changes, travel to different regions, etc.

@Dougal or @mullen119 do you guys have any insight when the new Mara Pro Inline (non XC) will be available? The site shows the XC and the Piggyback versions available but nothing for the Inline. I called and also submitted a support ticket ... was told they don't know when it will be available (no visibility to them on availability).
