Hi I need cranks for an old hardrock so I can gift it to my brother in college. But am struggling to figure what exactly I need, I understand new bikes but old bike specs have me confused. I believe it has a spindle length of 110 mm but the crankset says it is 123mm. So would these work together? also would i need a new front derailleur? here is the part in question Shimano Altus M311 Crankset from jenson or amazon and also pictures of the BB. Apoliges if my post format is incorrect its my first post here. So it is possible to use a crankset that recommends a spindle of 123 mm on a 110mm spindle? i cant find any that suggest using 110mm

A 110 spindle requires a "low profile" crank. One where the arms flare outward. If a crank spec'd for 123 is installed on 110, it will likely hit the chain stay. Spindles can have different tapers, Shimano crank taper is the most common.

Okay that makes sense. Any idea of one that would work? Struggling to find one

I've got a set of Specialized StrongArm cranks and bottom bracket from a 97 Stumpjumper in a box someplace if you are interested in those.
yea if they are compatible and all i would interested if i continue to fail at finding square taper cranks for my size spindle. i think im going to have to change BB to get cranks for it

If my memory is correct I should have Strong Arms (silver) and Strong Arm II (black) in the parts box at my parents. I seriously haven't looked in it in 10 years but they should be there. I'll check. They should both be square taper. Specialied didn't switch to Octalink until the S-works model which I never owned.
