Lately my derailleur has had alignment issues. It is a gx axs and has about 8000 trouble free years on it, but recently it has required me to max out the micro adjust to position 31 outboard. Even in this position it would still require a bit more range to perfect it. I started with the derailleur hanger and my gauge checks it out as being aligned. I have reset the positions min and max, redid the b screw, but still is maxed out. no visual damage to deraileur.

anyone experience this before?

Is your cassette on all the way? Seems very odd to have to max it out like that. It seems like your cassette is too far outboard. But I'd imagine you'd have other issues if that were true. I know of one person who didn't tighten the XD driver quite enough and the cassette didn't seat. I'm just guessing though. This is a case where a 2nd derailleur would be handy to swap and test.

If it was good, until it wasn't, I'd focus on what changed.

Did you recently remove the wheel? Perhaps the hub end caps aren't seated correctly? What about the freehub bearings. Maybe they are starting to wear and its giving you some play that your derailleur is trying to make up for?

I'd echo others and first look if the cassette is tightened up enough, the freehub is seated correctly, the hub end caps are on properly, rear axle is tightened up etc.

One thing that can happen and isn't visually obvious on the axs derailleurs is one of the pins can shear. it still looks fine but can't take any sideways loads like when shifting and might slightly go our of tolerance. Alternatively, the bushings for those pins in linkage can wear out so you get slop in the parallelogram. Does the whole parallelogram linkage still feel stiff when you twist it, you might have to remove the chain to properly test.

Have you tried resetting the derailleur? I find that if I re-pair mine the microadjustment also changes. Assuming you mean 8000 km or miles and not years, chances are the derailleur is already worn and could use new pins and pulleys.

Yes, don’t know where years popped out of, but its over 8k miles. So far I have checked the wheel, all endcaps look right, cassette is on correct, freehub is seated correctly. I have re-paired the microadjust without changes and don’t feel any play in the mechanism. I did find that although my hangar was straight the derailleur had bedded into it so replaced with a new hangar. I am still on the max adjustment, but at least the rasp is gone, and it is shifting okay.
