Mike Lee is a piss ant. This won’t pass.
That may be true. But enough people in Utah apparently have the same point of view since they voted him into office. That's what you should be worried about. It is easy to brush off some of the nutty representatives in DC. Just don't forget that they represent a large number of voters. That is where the change in thinking needs to happen.

Vote early and vote often!

Ha. Has anyone ridden anywhere lately and seen the amount of Surron riders on trails? Ballsy poachers that act entitled, and laugh at confrontation thinking they did nothing wrong.
Surrons on the trail? Never (although I've heard of them in Pacifica). Where are you seeing them?

Edit: Never mind. I forgot what the subject of this thread was.

Oh yeah. I'm under no illusions. That's why we'll never gain access to wilderness. We for sure had a shot before the industry started putting motors on mountain bikes. Zero chance now. Don't let one congressman who wants all public lands to be a free for all get your hopes up. We had our shot, and the bike industry tripped over its own feet trying to say bikes with motors aren't motorized bikes. That might fly in the bike community but it's laughable from the vantage point of other user groups that want wilderness to remain as is.
Interesting. The way I remember it, it was IMBA that stabbed the Sustainable Trails Coalition in the back at the 11th hour that derailed the best chance bikes in Wilderness ever had. It had nothing to do with ebikes.

The fact is, ebikes exist, and they aren't going away. You can piss and moan, and blame them if you want, but that's not helping. If you truly have a desire to see bikes in Wilderness, you should be looking for a way to make it happen instead of crying about why it won't.

Nope, not a single SurRon on-trail, ever.

The worst I've seen was an old man on a fat tire class 2, doing about 4mph up a trail I was coming down. I yielded to him, said hello, and carried on. No problems at all.

Exactly. Ebikes and Wilderness access are separate topics that folks conflate because it justifies their bias, despite the fact it's illogical.

Do you think that the non-cyclists who have a stake in the matter look at it in a logical way?

True, IMBA f'ed up on that one, but you're delusional if you think hybrid motorbikes had no negative effects on gaining access.

Bro, they flat out didn't exist, and weren't part of the discussion....at all. And IMBA didn't ef up, they flat out screwed the STC and tanked any hopes of progress being made, I'm sure at the urging of their masters, Sierra Club.

You people are going to have to get over the motorized / non-motorized nomenclature. It's outdated. What matters is "impact", and class 1 ebikes belong with other "low-impact" users.

Right. It wouldn't matter if the BLM spent a couple billion studying the differences between MTB and E finding zero difference. E bikes have motors and you're not going to convince other user groups they are the same as bikes that don't have motors. Wilderness rules are so crazy about motors you can't even use a chainsaw for trail maintenance, yet E bikers think the fact that they still have to pedal their hybrid motorbikes they will be considered human powered non motorized bikes? Seriously people, just think about it. Motors on bikes, regardless of the power and how that power is delivered changed everything in regards to letting bikes in. It's not happening. Move on.

Good for them, out there having fun and challenging authority instead of passively rotting in front of a screen.
Would you rather they suffer from Nature Deficit Disorder?

I'd actually rather they build their own trails and gtfo my lawn, dawg

Oh god. BLM just opened a bunch of land near me to ebikes that is an area of environmental concern and is an abutment to a wilderness area also located near a national park. Literally gives access to anyone that can fit through he gate. BLM field office is 140 miles away and that same property is patrolled by one ranger.

No. Most folks would rather they go where they're allowed to go. Like an ORV area.
