The key part is: This bill extends Utah law for motor vehicles to include off-highway vehicles (OHV) within certain parts of Capitol Reef National Park.
The side by side industry wants access so those things can destroy the earth. Utah Republicans have been thirsting to exploit capital reef and have been particularly crying over the Bears Ears ever since it was created by Obama.

We might have had a shot years ago then E bikes cock blocked us.
No. There were efforts prior to ebikes that failed. I was pretty deeply involved back then. As long as the D's have any control of the house, the senate, or the presidency, bikes in Wilderness will never happen. The Sierra Club, and other environmental groups will never allow it.

Personally, I'll gladly trade bikes in Wilderness for ebikes being treated the same as traditional bikes everywhere else, and that's where my advocacy time and money goes now. Most Wilderness trails aren't that great anyhow, and they're only getting worse with the lack of maintenance, fires, etc. I WILL fight against new Wilderness though. It's the worst thing we can do for the environment and wildlife imho.

lol. Worse than building shopping malls, football stadiums, giant unused parking lots, or tobacco fields? I think wilderness has a lot of merit. Land needs protection from the most destructive species… us.

Naw, we were making progress then E bikes started to trend. Now that they are rivaling mountain bikes there's no chance we'll get in. Thanks for the cock block.

Certainly don't disagree with you but wilderness is a screwed up way of "protecting" land. Free range live stock, horses, and pack animals hardly protects the land. Wilderness areas would be better protected if we banned free range animals and allowed bikes. I suspect even the Sierra club would agree with that. E bikes on the other hand? Even though there's no difference in trail damage, good luck convincing non bike people E bikes are the same as MTB. E bikes have motors and that changes the game. E bikers stick their heads in the sand over how non bike people view them. News flash E bikers, you're riding a bike with a motor and that's how non bike people see it. How you see it isnt' relevant because you dont' need to convince people like yourself.

The best thing you could do at this point is advocate FOR ebikes to be treated the same, AND be included in Wilderness access. The basis of excluding motorized users when the WA was written was noise, speed, and pollution. Since ebikes are essentially identical to traditional bikes in those regards, there's no reason to exclude them.

I didn't say I was against preserving public wildlands, I said I was against Wilderness designations.

I'm tired or brake bumps and kooks going around everything that resembles an obstacle. The last thing I want is more riders fuc'n the trails up. I'm not a more the merrier type. Ride a mountain bike, or go ride motorized trails. I will fight against E access on non motorized trails.

Well, that's three things you're going to waste your time on. Ebikes on non-motorized trails are inevitable....already happening in many places. Population growth means more people on the trails. Bikes in Wilderness will never happen....unless the R's have total control.

Public lands are for public use. If you don't like that, maybe you should look into buying up a few thousand acres and building your own private trails, or starting your own "we hate people that are different from us" club, and pool your resources to buy up land. That's what the hikers are doing in some places.

Right? Riding mtb for @ 25 years before eMTBs got popular, NO ONE went around obstacles or sanitized tech sections. And before Strava NO ONE was inconsiderate/rode recklessly. When do we stop blaming tech and start holding the reckless/careless/clueless PEOPLE accountable? And yes, they are part of EVERY user community...including among us old school riders who don't ride eMTBs.

Good luck fighting windmills. You already lost that fight almost everywhere.

Anyhow, back to Wilderness. It's true that odds of passing are remote in current Congress, but legislation can take many years to pass.

Man I really hate politics but I guess that's one reason to vote dems.

Oh yeah. I'm under no illusions. That's why we'll never gain access to wilderness. We for sure had a shot before the industry started putting motors on mountain bikes. Zero chance now. Don't let one congressman who wants all public lands to be a free for all get your hopes up. We had our shot, and the bike industry tripped over its own feet trying to say bikes with motors aren't motorized bikes. That might fly in the bike community but it's laughable from the vantage point of other user groups that want wilderness to remain as is.
