I'm headed up there 5 weeks from now... beyond stoked. Bringing my nomad with me and bringing my wife this time, which is going to be fun.

I can't decide on tires... Going to run a double down maxx grip assegai in front and I can't decide on rear tire. (all dh casing) dhr2 maxx terra, dhr2 maxx grip or dh assegai in maxx grip. Last time I was up there I was on double down assegai/dhr2 with maxx grip in front and maxx terra in back.

So peanut gallery... so the question is... is a maxx grip assegai too slow rolling for the rear for the bike park? I've only run maxx terra there. I will also be pedaling, but I'm a masochist and the pedaling speed doesn't scare me too much.

I'll be back from my trip there in 2 weeks.

I've currently got a DH/SS Continental Artogal on the front, and a Trail/Endurance Continental Kryptotal Re with an insert in it. However, yesterday I noticed the sidewalls are just barely starting to weep in a few spots. I have a DH/SS Kryptotal Fr in the garage I pulled off the front back in October that has a lot of life left in it that I'm planning on tossing on the bike before the trip.

I'm sure it won't roll as well as the current setup... but should help prevent any expensive wheel damage.

I may also bring something faster rolling, in case I need it.

Guess I'll let you know :).

I'm 205 lbs, been riding since 1988 and have never once purchased/used a DD tire or tire insert. I run a 2.5 Assegai up front and a 2.5 Aggressor on the back. I've never had so much was a flat in Whistler. Admittedly, I don't do huge drops to flat but run A-Line, Dirt Merchant and everything in Squamish on that set up.

I ride harder then I should and run out of talent on a regular basis, as a result I go from riding smooth and not needing a thicker casing most of the time to needing a dh casing without warning. I definitely wouldn't be able to get through riding in squamish/pemberton with only exo or exo+. Even with an insert those casings are pretty sketchy for me when there are rocks involved.

Lame AF. I’m headed up there in a couple weeks and am not excited about dumping fluid through the bleed ports each ride. Anybody have a part number for the blank bolts that come in the performance level F36? Or thread pitch/size? I’d swap out my bleeders for blanks if I could find bolts.

That’s not a bad idea. I’d ask your lbs. It’s a pain in the ass to find Fox SKUs like that online.

It’s happening!

I’m at the sundial hotel, and can see the lift from my room. We arrived late last night, and are getting ready for the lifts to open right now.

We will be riding for three days, and have 3 private lessons as well ( they were running deals). Hoping to get used to the park this morning/warm up a bit, then be ready for the afternoon lessons, and see how we fare on our jumping progression while we are here.

I can’t promise that I’ll be super responsive. But if you’ve got any questions about whistler and its status, let me know and I’ll see if I can find it out for you :).

I’ll be up there in 2 weeks. Excited to hear your feedback and I’m stoked to put the new MRP damper through its paces. I fitted some new tires last night too - Argotal enduro soft 2.6/Kryptotal R tr/e 2.4. So pumped already.

Oh, man, what a day. I only did 2 hrs, but there was no line-up to speak of. Just rode right up to the scanner every time. It was warm and sunny, but there's still a lot of soupy sections on the trails.

I was a little tentative because I'm using my enduro instead of my DH, but still mostly got right back into it. It's like riding a bike... 😁

I usually ride my enduro bike. The one time I rented a DH bike was my least enjoyable trip.

Will be very interested in your first impressions.

Rode from about 10:45, until 7:45pm, taking about 30min for lunch, and 15min for dinner time snack. We had our lesson from 1pm-4pm.

Our first lap was easy does it into del boca vista, then we tried B line into heart of darkness. That actually was the first crash of the trip. someone crashed right in front of us close to the end, and I barely avoided them, but before I could get out of the way, my buddy behind me slammed into me (he was airborne, and it was a pretty big impact). He mostly hit my bike, but also me to an extent. All ok, but we’re both sporting some bruising and scrapes from it.

The lessons were good, although we only got two laps in. We mostly worked on jumps on the jump/drop on … Joyride? Then we practice pumping/pushing on… Wednesday Night Delight? After that we did the “super secret practice jump” for a while and then crank it up.

After the lessons we mostly did crank it up. Although we also did try ninja cougar, Pizza Cat, Ho chi min, and a few other tech trails.

So far the lineup has been barely there, although the more was a HUUUGe group of people that had special wrist bands (many of them were in half shells and had no pads). I think I got 10-12 laps in for the day?

Crank it up is our groups happy place so far. We aren’t clearing it, but I think I’m probably clearing about 60-75% of it, and we only have something like 6laps on it so far too to bottom.

The biggest disappointment so far has probably been the tech trails. Nothing wrong with them, but the couple we’ve ridden just haven’t been anything super special feeling either (although a few of them have had a couple really fun corners). Crank it up on the other hand is exactly what we were wanting to practice jumps on though, which is why it’s been the favorite of the first day.

Also, the crash at the beginning of the day totally destroyed my rear derailleur. So my ongoing “weird shifting” issues I’d had are all now moot. I’ve got to replace the whole thing anyway, and may as well start over from scratch.

I did two hours yesterday, from about 11 - 1pm, and got 5 runs in. But there was no line-up during that time, and I'm sure during the lessons you spend a lot of time going over things and sessioning stuff.

So on Joyride Jump Park, did you hike back up after each try? I've never done that but I can see how there's room for it.

This early in the season, the choices really are limited. But tomorrow (Saturday) they're supposed to be opening Creekside, which will make a whole lot of other runs available. The only problem is Creekside is generally wetter than Fitz, so bring scuba gear.

Crank it Up is def a fun trail, but IMO C-More is even better. The jumps are bigger, a little more mellow, and a little more spaced out. C-More is 'any day now' status at the moment. A-Line is half-closed, which is annoying AF. There's another tech sequence like Ninja Cougar that starts with Funshine Rolly Drops, which is, of course, closed right now. It's a little more techy than the Ninja Cougar line. Angry Pirate is also a little more challenging.
