What are some competitors to the Rene Herse Snoqualmie Pass? Needs to be tubeless compatible and a slick / almost slick tread. Under or near 400 grams. Not Gravel King because they stop at 40mm. Not a hybrid / city / urban tire. I've read that the Rene Herse tires have leaky sidewalls and may be prone to blow-off.

I had the Rene Herse 48mm Hatcher Pass tires for a few years on my gravel bike and they were incredible tires. The problem you state I believe was more common with their narrower tires that were designed for tubes. The models that have TC in the name should work quite well for you and the 40-55mm options are being used on the pointy end of gravel and endurance races.

FWIW I've been running the Snoqualmies for over a year with no issue and absolutely LOVE them. I got the endurance casing and have had no issues despite taking them all kinds of places where they had absolutely no business being :ROFLMAO:

S-works Pathfinder? 700x42, 435g

Slick center strip, minimal tread elsewhere. Don't have a ton of experience w/other tires for comparison but they seem pretty damn good to me. Light, roll fast, no issues with punctures or leaks. Mine measure closer to 44mm actual.

There's some confusion here - you want a road style tire in gravel sizeway. That kind of "slick".

The Pathfinder Pro, G One whatevers, Power Adventure, Cava, etc - are all gravel tires. They aren't slicks and they don't ride like road tires.

AFAIK there are only two other competitors to the Sno. Pass right now - Panaracer did one or two runs of 700cx43 Gravel King Slicks before they revamped their entire line. They're still available but when they're gone they're gone. True road style slick tire (although actually file tread just like the Sno. Pass) and IIRC they were 375-390g.

The other is the Challenge Strada Bianca 700cx45 - but it's a relative porker at 550g - https://www.challengetires.com/shop/products/strada-bianca-6/216296

Otherwise you're SOL. I'm waiting for Schwalbe and Continental to add more tires in and closer to these sizes. Schwalbe has the 700cx38 Pro One and Continental has the 700cx35 GP5K AS so fingers crossed we get 40+ models next year or year after.

fair, but I'd put the Pathfinders in the "almost slick" category requested by OP. More tread than the Snoqualimies or the Gravelking slicks for sure, but less knobby than most of the others. Very low profile side knobs. They ride like road tires to me (at least compared to several other gravel tires I've tried), but I'm also not a connoisseur by any stretch

agree that it would be good to have more true slick options in typical gravel sizes. I'd like to explore more "road" style tires for my gravel rig

The (now old) GravelKing slick is offered in 700x43 with a claimed weight of 350g (?). Probably the closest 1:1 tire out there for what you asked; I would suspect an almost identical tire to the 700x44 RH slick standard casing.

All I wanted was a cushy, but still efficient road tire. No, not some heavily armored commuter tire. I guess there is no demographic for me because I am not into racing, or even going hard. It would be great if Tufo would just take their Speedero tire casing and make it treadless.
I guess I will see if the GravelKing slick 43 has any blow-off or sealant evaporation problems.

I run the Gravel King Slick in 35. No issues at all with sealant evaporation, or blow offs. On my second set, and getting ready to get a third. In this size they are excellent for road miles, but I don't hesitate to take them into offroad either.

I forgot to mention that I have been using a set of GravelKing 38mm since 2022. They haven't blown off yet. However, they look rather puny next to 44mm Tufo tires. Unclear which is the better tire - GravelKing 43mm or RH 44mm. Apparently both have occasional blow-off problems.

even though Speederos aren't slick, they're pretty much the same as GK slicks, but heavier, thicker, and a less floppy bead in the few that I've mounted.
