Following the threads here including of course this one, it seems the excitement over new models continues to wither. I can't help but wonder how many Epic 8's Specialized will make and price trends later this year. My wild guess is downward sales prices on the non-S-Works ones, but that's dependent on numbers built.

Seems like the E8 is selling well with many sizes and builds sold out. I heard or saw that they won’t have some builds stocked until August I don’t think the new Yeti ASR will fare that well. Not much out there has started with a big following. I suspect the E8 will do very well this year.

what confuses me is the lack of reviews by the common people. A lot of media reviews initially. A great review would be Flight Attendant equipped bikes in a shootout. I think that would reveal a lot about FA and how it makes mediocre bikes better.

I've been already offered a 20% discount on the Epic 8 Comp model (though I'm still rather tempted to get the 2023 Epic Evo Expert instead, which is now on sale for only 10% or so more than the Epic 8 Comp on a 20% discount).

Here is a quick write up I did in another thread - Pivot Mach 4 SL with Flight Attendant. My M4 was non flight attendant so I was able to have a before/after review. I thinks it’s relevant here because of how FA performed on a dwlink bike vs a single pivot for stay. Summary - in my opinion, FA can make up for some weaknesses of designs. That is a good thing.

Yeah, so maybe they are not selling too well in the end ;)

Epic 8 was highly antecipated and a lot of hype for quite some time now, then you have the ASR and Scalpel being released with a couple of weeks, they definitely should have seen they would be staying in the shadow of the Epic 8 release, doesn’t seem that was very smart, but the ASR does look like a great bike!

It’s all about the price point. Last year’s epic evo flew off the shelves at the clearance pricing. consumers thought that price point was a good value. Current epic 8 is priced at “next greatest” but really that’s only because of flight attendant. As soon as that becomes available for individual purchase so does the hype for the bike IMO. At the current price point anyways.

Based on what I’ve heard from retailers that I know, the top end models stay resistant to price pressures until the new versions come out. Anything below that tends to be tougher at various, but fairly rapid, speeds. Admittedly, the people I know well enough to discuss this on a friendly basis are primarily Pivot dealers, but based on various YouTube videos and articles, I believe this is consistent across most high end brands. I’m sure there are always exceptions but that’s the case with pretty much anything in retail.

Here is mine.

Started off as an Epic 8 EVO Comp (cheapest build available) and then I swapped over every part from my prior Epic EVO (except the shock since it is a different size). I guess it is technically an Epic 8 now, since it is 120/120.

Weighs 25lbs ready to ride with pedals, sealant, bottle cages, etc. Has AXS XO1 drivetrain, XTR 4 piston brakes, Roval Carbon wheels, SID Ultimate, AXS 170 dropper and some EEwings.

It's winter in the northern hemisphere, and a lot of 'common people' who live near the mountains may be enjoying winter. Here in Lake Tahoe we've received 10 feet of snow in March alone. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lull in reviews for another few weeks. Maybe things will pick up in mid-April when Sea Otter happens?

I do like the idea of comparing FA across a few bike models. I'm sure someone will create a nice comparison like this.

It all depends if your dealer cares to cut his profits or not. I buy my Spesh bikes 20% off from my dealer. Including the new s-works E8 I ordered.
It wasn't my local dealer but someone from another EU country. But I'm still hesitating as I'd only keep the frame and fork from the Comp model. I should have bought the previous model base version on sale (I saw that for as little as 2800 euros at the beginning of this year). I don't care much about the subtle geometry changes or the SWAT box, tbh. What I like about the Epic 8 (compared to the previous Evo) are: cable entry ports, rock guard on bottom of down tube, knock block. So I'm not sure that these are worth an extra 1500 euros or so (of course, the Epic 8 does not have a base model, so that price difference also includes SID vs Reba, 3-pos shock vs older 2-pos shock, and GX vs NX, though I would have to sell both of the latter in either case as I'm Team Shimano)

Strange that you don't have your bike yet. Because you only give 20% to regular customers and regular customers should have priority. This is just my opinion. That's how I would treat my loyal regular customers
