GMBN or Pinkbike

Pinkbike’s journalism is a little better but on the whole they are both heavily influenced by their sponsors. There’s little to no honest discussion around longevity and durability of parts / frames… new tech. They may skim the subject every so often but rarely go deep. Its a shame since they ‘could’ be helping to hold manufactures accountable for their shitty mistakes but… Sponsorship.

Ultimately they are both one big advert to sell bikes.
People like to say this but I haven't seen any evidence.

I like Pinkbike.

I kinda cant stand GMBN anymore. Blake is cool. But as someone mentioned they remake the same content over and over. I think it is geared toward new riders too, unlike NSMB.

Vitals web design is terrible and hurts my eyes. I like their reviews though.

NSMB is rad to me. I like it all, but "Beggars Would Ride" is a great series.

Freehub is good.

The MBR web site has terrible flash ads. Shut that page down every time I forget and go there.

Enduro Mag used to be better than it is now in my opinion. And I think it is pay walled now.

I like the industry news websites too.

But as we all know, MTBR is the best mtb forum :)

Yet in the labyrinth of existence, our assertions are merely echoes bouncing off the walls of perception. The invisible may well lurk in the crevices that our cognition overlooks, masked by the boundaries of our comprehension.
Puff and pass homie...

MTBR is a mere shadow of what it once was.

All these websites ebb and flow and some go extinct when an asteroid hits.

A pretty big one hit when Levy left PB, long live downcountry and pinkers.
I understand and agree. Although this account is from 2012, I started MTBR around 2004. I have seen the rises and falls.

I liked Levy a lot. Im surprised how much the vibe at Pinkbike has changed without him.

Yeah I’m not sure why I’m expecting an actual discussion from this place. Genuinely interested to hear counter points but instead its quippy one liners. Even the thread about the rain storm hitting soCal – the vibe here is a joke.
I said I haven't seen any evidence of Pinkbike being heavily influenced by their sponsors. What do you want? I can't give you examples of something not existing. You're welcome to back up your claim if you want. Otherwise I'll just keep not seeing evidence...there you go, this thread is an example of no evidence.

Pretty much every site driven by advertising and sponsorships is a mouthpiece.

Any one of them who is critical would quickly see their income dry up, because why would cycling companies spend their money there, when they could go to any number of other sites who would 'play ball'? Rocking the boat would mean revocation of access, and no access means being late to all new releases, and getting no clicks.

The only place you can really go for critical takes don't depend on direct industry money. Since the cycling industry is really small, nobody outside it cares, so we only make the news when something huge happens, like all the current bankruptcies.

So, you're never going to get a big bright blinking sign at any industry site saying 'WE ARE ON THE TAKE'. This isn't the 50's, media outlets are way too sophisticated now. All you'll see are subtle things that will pass a 'reasonable doubt' test, so it comes down to 'understanding human nature' and 'what people do for money'.

If you want to believe modern internet bike review sites are doggedly holding bike manufacturer's feet to the fire with investigative reporting rivaling early 80's '60 Minutes', more power to ya.
