Hey,
I currently have Fox 36 Rhythm 160mm but have upgraded the airshaft to 170mm, they are on a Vitus Sommet 290 2022 build 162mm rear with 170mm front as is recommended for the frame geo...
I'm on a bit of budget so can't afford a 38 or a Zeb...
I've ordered Rockshox Domain 170mm forks for a great deal as they seem to get pretty decent reviews, odd one here and there saying they are a little harsh but the majority of reviews and YouTube reviewers seem to say they are great and not a million miles away from a Zeb or 38 although they arent quite as good...
I ride fairly rough stuff and crack on, on the descents, but just wondering if this is a worthwhile upgrade or not, I can always send them back if needed.. Would just like the stiffness of a 38mm stanction as my mates Fox 38 performance feels a lot sturdier than my 36, don't mind the extra weight as I'm fairly fit and ride all day with relative ease, weigh 80kg... What do people think? Cheers

The Rhythm has a much better damper. I would keep that instead of the Domain.

Motion control damper was trash when they launched it in 2005. 20 years later, it's still trash. Return the Domain if you can, the GRIP damper is in a different league. Even Fox's RAIL damper is miles better.

Wasn't there a garbage tier Manitou or Marzocchi that used the same type of thing, maybe with tiny bit of damping? The drawing for Domain reminded me of it.
Rockshox Pure damper?

Manitou had Fluid Flow. But it at least had orifice plates in a compression assembly.

I put a Marzocchi coil kit in my 36 Rhythm. I couldn’t be happier with its performance.
yep, I've been riding for 30 odd years, a smashpotted 36 Rhythm is up there in my top 3 ever forks list. The other 2 above are both dual crown DH forks and 1 was not available to the public lol. It's in elite league!
