Attention Canadian Costco members!

Louis Garneau - Gros Louis 3 - current (from 2023?) model.
I got mine in store on Wednesday for $600, now showing online $700 all sizes.
List $1850 but I see it as low as $1200 elsewhere.

Pointe-Claire QC had 7 left - medium only (main aisle on left) after I took mine.
Other locations? QC only? Pointe-Claire only? No idea.
Buddy of mine was going to check Ottawa, haven't heard back yet.

Unbranded rims, not Mulefats as pictured online
@37lbs. UPDATE 3: managed a more accurate weighing than me with and without the bike on bathroom scale, make it 36lb. max. Will be able to drop a lb or 2 easily.

UPDATE: another buddy just told me he grabbed one, 5 left now.
UPDATE 2: down to 4 in PC thanks to another bud, his 1st FB.
And just to be clear the in-store price is $600

Damn. Hydraulic disc brakes and studdable tires for $600? That’s awesome.

My Garneau GL3 from Costco was just delivered. Size large, I'm 6 foot

So playing around with the GL3 last night, the rims don't appear to be tubeless compatible. Maybe ghetto.

The Cake Eaters are VERY loose on the rims. I tried a pair of Gnarwhals and they were tighter but still loose.

They're also the standard version which weigh 1800 grams each unstudded.

I also have a new Giant Yukon and the Maxxis Colossus tires on it are downright tight by comparison.

The rim strips would need to be trimmed to allow for tape, and then there's the spoke heads to deal with.

It's a big bike. I looked at the sizing and geo charts before ordering and I am firmly a large, but by comparison, it's even longer than the RM Blizzard. It's a lot longer than the Yukon that's for sure. A medium may be better but then there would be a ton of seatpost showing, and I don't have long legs.

Seems like more of an expedition bike, there are rack mounts, fork mounts etc. Long wheelbase.

Not sure if I'm going to keep it. I was considering selling the Yukon and keeping this (much cheaper) but I think there's just too many things that will annoy me and if I start upgrading it, then it won't be worth it. Dropper, drivetrain, wheels etc.

I'd say the GL3 would be perfect for someone who wants to leave it as is and just ride it. Throw in some lighter tubes, stud the tires and let'er rip.

I mean the fact it comes in different sizes with modern specs makes this a way better buy than the Northrock XCF/XC00

Didn't think the tires on mine were that loose, compared to what I have used on my 26er.
My tires weigh 1765g and 1673g, tubes 564 and 530.
Big beast yes, 3 rides in, still some getting used to. About 8in. longer, end-to-end, than my 26er with 4in. JJs
Swapped 11spd drivetrain, 740mm bars and a few other bits from my upgraded CCM Brut, now down about 3/4lb..
Lighter tubes and studs sooner or later.

Online looks like sizes M, L and XL are now sold out.
edit: XL back in stock as of the 19th

Currently $499

Did you check spoke tension on your wheels ? Mine were really high, like 130-140kgf. I don't know if that would contribute to looser tires, but if when putting mtb tires on rims tension drops like 10gkf, at that much tension, the rims might "become" a bit smaller.

I'll definately take out my Park TM-1 tonight and spend some time bringing those back into a normal range.

Edit : well they were closer to 120kgf on average, so that might not be enough to make the beads fit looser.

Couldn’t find geo for this one. Website has a link but doesn’t open anything. Anyone have geo for this bike?

Louis Garneau - Gros Louis 2 - latest 2023 model.
Was spotted in store on last week for $900, few, if any, left now.
Not online....yet, likely $1000 if it happens.
List $2500 but I see it as low as $1250 elsewhere.

Garneau pulls web page offline when they have no more available so look for specs elsewhere.
Think it has a dropper, SRAM 12spd (the dreaded SX) but same non-TLR wheelset as GL3.

Very happy with my impulse buy $600 GL3.

I also saw some posts that the GL3 was on sale for $450 in store (down from $600) at Costco boxing week, which is insane.

I bought mine online for $699.

Not sure the GL2 is that much of a better deal. SX isn't great and neither is the dropper post.

The SRAM crank is a definite upgrade though to the "Charm"

Thanks! I just saw it on a picture on RedFlagDeals but there were no price or tags so I was wondering.

I prefer the GL2's color (my previous red CCM fat bike was the exact same color as the GL3), but for 300$ more I don't mind having bought the GL3. I bought a Race Face Ride fat bike crankset (190mm axle) from RF when they were on boxing day sale for 120$ and I had a 150mm TransX dropper that I had bought on closeout for 70$ last year, so all in all it ends up being cheaper for the same specs.

Plus I just finished doing a clear PPF wrap on it (which took me like 15 hours) and adjusting spoke tension (they were at 130-140gkf) so I'm not going t start over with another bike

Maybe I missed it, but what's the out of the box weight... just curious?
I don't have a proper scale, sorry.

Update to this, i'll be returning the GL3 as I picked up a GL2 instead, which i'm upgrading.

I have a set of Mulefuts on the way and have studded Gnarwhals for them.

Now I'm trying to decide on a drivetrain upgrade. GX or SLX. I'll post pics once I have the bike altogether.

FYI, for those getting the Gros Louis from Costco, the seatstay/chainstay junction does not play well with cable discs because the cable fixing bolt sits right under the seatstay. You need a short hex key, or just set your rotor clearance, tighten the cable fixing bolt then bolt the caliper on the frame.
I did not want the Sram level brakes but they work great. I just prefer cable discs for the ultimate maintenance-free winter bike.

A few heads-up concerning those bikes too :
-My rear brake tabs were not super level, so I had to face them a bit.
-Spoke tension was very high (most spokes at 120-130kgf with my calibrated Park tm-2)
-Most of the spokes are 2-3mm too short, there is 1-2mm of threads showing. Maybe they tensioned them so that there were no threads showing, but with 100kgf, they are too short.
-My front axle lines up with the fork threads, but it seems a bit off. I can still tighten it without much force, but it's easier if I hold the hub flange on the threaded side when threading the first 2-3 turns to mae sure it's properly engaged in the threads.
-Otherwise, after a deep scrutiny and rebuild, they are great bikes for the price.

Currently $499
FYI - The freehub and drive ring are weak points.

It's a solid build otherwise IMO.
