Here's an idea. Ride them where they're permitted but don't ride them where they're not. Surely we can all agree on that?

This applies to multi-use recreational trails, where we increasingly see purely motorized bikes (e.g. DUI bikes) blasting down the trail, weaving in and out of pedestrians, cyclists, kids with training wheels, etc. The main objection to eBikes you see from folks labeled "haters" here is conduct that could lead to pressure to ban human powered bikes in reaction to illegal use by prohibited bikes. That's all folks!

Okay.

Again, still banned on the best trails here, and again arguing that the motor isn't a motor is not helping that cause.

Lesen macht schlau
Nobody's arguing that, of course it's a motor. It doesn't matter they are banned, it's wrong to ban them, so i choose to ignore laws that are wrong.

And give more credence to the people that want to ban all bikes. Thanks for the selfishness. Komrade.

All the arguing about ebikes are not going to stop people from riding/ buying them. Myself, I hate them, I believe it makes people lazy. I got into mountain biking, and to quote JFK, "not because it's easy, but because it's hard". While there are people whom I'm okay about them riding one, suffered a serious injury where they cannot ride a mountain bike anymore or someone who is disabled. Unfortunately, this is not the case in most riders.
I have a couple of friends who bought into the ebike thing that try to convince me that I should get an ebike, hell no, as long as I can pedal on my own, which I plan on for many years ahead.
While I yield to almost every trail user, especially when they are coming uphill, I don't to ebikes because they don't belong on most of the trails I ride.

Well said, start to finish. My wife and I are in your camp, including peer pressure to motorize.

Here’s our conclusion: we all ride for different reasons. An eBike would take away the sense of accomplishment, reducing our motivation to stay fit and get stronger. A friend of ours bought one to go much further and faster, his goal. Now we can no longer ride with him. He assumed everybody would quickly follow his lead. Nope, most have not. He’s simply riding for different reasons. It’s a different sport, unless as you say, someone is dealing with a disability.

You wont convince them. It's like trying to talk to flat earthers... they will cherry pick the info that suits their arguement and ignore the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Here's the reality. The governments of the world have settled on specifications and legislation dictating power output, maximum speed ect to classify and e-bikes.

They are here to stay regardless of what the haters think.
The governments of the world have decided? Not hardly
The unelected bureaucrats have imposed some vague rules which none of them really understand and are mostly unenforceable.
Class1? Class 2, class 3 ? Unmodified?
Right, but No one to enforce or determine which is which.
Most mtn bikers can't even tell if it is an ebike.
What you're now seeing is road riding ebikers are fing it up by not following common sense road rules, so they will get licensed soon.
Mtn bikers will do the same, modified output, bypass the pedal requirements
E atvs and dirt bikes will all try to ride the trails, and the end result will be complaints, and the bureaucrats will do what they do best ban them because it's the easiest to do

Disingenuous argument and thread. Your "trying to wrap your hear around" but in reality you're just here to bash in a closed minded way.

what a crock. If you are riding, how are you able to determine what bikes are E vs human powered and then make a decision about yielding? You must be slow or full of it.
Well, if they are coming towards me uphill at or near the same speed I am descending, it's pretty clear they are getting some assistance.

Just yesterday I was climbing a mild grade on my gravel bike, but hitting it hard. I was doing 22 miles an hour when a dude on a Turbo Levo passed me. It's not that hard to quickly determine who is on an ebike.

I am mostly indifferent to ebikes, but to say I can't quickly tell the difference isn't true.
