I'm planning on selling my late husband's two bikes. One is a Gary Fisher 21-inch frame Genesis 229 bike. He took great care of it. The other is a Fuji America Series V that needs new tires. I saw on Ebay the same Fuji frame only go for $769.99. I was shocked at the high price. I checked bicycle blue book but neither bike was listed. How much do you think I should ask for these bikes? I don't have the love of riding like my husband did so I'm rather clueless and don't want to be taken advantage of. I appreciate any help you can offer.

DirtJunkie, are you saying I should post photos on this thread or when I sell it? Fortunately, my husband kept excellent records and I located the receipt and owners manual. It was purchased in 2003. It is a Dual Sport 229.

This 229? XL frame?
I'd put it up for $100 and be happy to sell it at all. Seems ads are littered with cheap bikes. A better idea is post it for more but plan to negotiate down.

eatdrinkride, yes, that is the bike. Thank you for finding it on Bicycle Blue Book. I didn't see it in their drop down list of bike models. He added a rear rack, fenders, bottle cage and pedal and toe clips. He paid $912 for it including tax. I had listed it on FB Marketplace for $130 but maybe I overpriced it. Thanks for your help. Is his Fuji bike really worth what the same frame sold for on eBay? That seems incredibly overpriced compared to the GF bike.

I don't think you've overpriced it one bit if it's in good shape. It's just that like Tinshield said, older used bikes are hard to get value out of right now. I've got two +$500 hybrid bikes like that GF that are only 2 years old with almost no use and I can't unload them for half cost right now.

Best of luck to you. Looks like a nice bike but in XL it narrows down the buying pool even more.

Is this the Fuji?

I'm not sure it sold at that price, it says "out of stock" rather than sold. My guess is it was sold elsewhere from eBay and who knows at what price.

Here's one that does show as sold at a much lower price:

But these are frame/fork and yours is a complete bike.

I would search for a touring bike and/or vintage road bike website and put up some photos of your bike and see what people think it is worth. It may be a tough sale at a higher price, just finding someone who wants a vintage touring bike, a vintage site may be your best bet. Looks to be a nice bike but probably the average CL buyer won't want a bike at that price for being that old.

Sorry for your loss.

Firstly, sorry for your loss.

Both...

Kinda difficult to assess something we cannot see.

Tough time to sell. I use pinkbike because the ads are free and you will get traffic. I've had multiple ads up since the winter with zero, that's zero sales. The bike industry is in a bit of a recession, and there's a glut of used and new stuff on the market. If you just want to move the bikes I would use eBay with a low enough start bid to encourage bidding but not so low you get burned if you only get one bid. Good luck!

I don't use ebay for valuation or a realistic market price. Ebay is loaded with people who create multiple accounts and bid up their own items. Some even create ads and "buy" the items for way over inflated prices to artificially drive up the price on ebay and generate traffic. I believe a magazine did an article on this a few years back. either way unfortunately sorry for your loss and I hope you get maximum value from both bikes.
