What are some grips that are good for larger hands and damp out vibration well? I'm trying to make a list so I can start trying them out and taking notes.

For some context: I have XL size gloves and like riding technical PNW terrain (roots, rocks, etc.) in the woods on a hardtail. Grips that I found "ok" were PNW Loam and the Ergon GA2 Fat. I could feel the many little ridges through my gloves on the loam grips and that was somehow distracting. The GA2 fat are just fine and what I'm currently riding. I like the diameter (33mm) and dampening but maybe not the rubber, which honestly doesn't seem that tacky, and I don't know that I like the tapered / ergonomic shape that much. It can feel awkward unless your hand is in one position and IME I put my hand in different positions depending on cilmbing vs. descending and other factors.

Grips on my list so far:

  • Oury Single Compound v2
  • Lizard Skins Northshore
  • Deity Supracush
  • Trail One Hell's Gate
Not interested in foam grips like the ESI chunky or Wolf Tooth Fat Paw because they seem to chip up and tear.

DirtySixer has some custom 43mm grips on their new bikes -- as far as I know those are the largest in production.
Not sure if they're available to order separately, but it might be worth asking.

Revgrips has some larger sizes -- the newer RG7 is the biggest with a 34.5mm to 35mm diameter (they're "ergo", but it's a much more subtle profile that's consistent around vs. the winged shape of grips like Ergon):

Probably the best grips i tried are PNW loam and they have an XL size. definitely check those ones out
I really like how comfortable they are. But I just took them off my bikes to put Ergon GA2 fat grips back on.

The flex and movement of the layers on the grip when you're hitting high speed chunk is just too much and I find I have to death grip the bar. I'm pretty certain a crash early this year is because of this, my right hand just came right off the grip while descending. After the crash, I tried riding gloveless and it was better. However I still find myself descending with a death grip otherwise my hands still want to come right off the grip when things get rowdy.

Sensus Meaty Paws should be on your list. For me it’s GA2 FAT, Meaty Paws and Supracush in that order, and that’s also the order of squish/squirm.

The Supracush are really comfortable for trail riding and more leisurely stuff, but too squirmy in the rough for my tastes, and they twist at the ends no matter how hard you bash them on. I crashed them once and tore the end off one side, so that’s another black mark for not having end caps in my opinion.

The Ergons aren’t as comfortable in terms of damping but they’re rock solid. They don’t squirm or twist, they seem to fit my hands really well and they’re comfortable enough.

The Meaty Paws are in the middle for all of the above. No weird shapes and the texture isn’t distracting through gloves. I just really like how solid and durable the Ergons are.

Yeah, I tried the PNW Loam and I think my experience was that it annoyed me how much the outer layer of the grip can move/flex/squash. I didn't have an accident because of this but I found myself feeling nervous and distracted by the PNW Loam grips. I didn't try the XL though, but I imagine it would be the same.

I've been using the larger size SDG Thrice for the last couple years and really like them.
Same here.

The larger SDGThrice is 33mm, and I quite like them. Plus they seem to always be on steep sales for some reason. I got my last set from JensonUSA for $6.94 or something like that.

I’ve tried the original PNW Loam grips, and those were just too small in diameter.

Being different as ever, I've been through this and found the best solution to be sticky normal sized grips.

I've got XXL hands and went through a phase of trying big grips (finding silicone foam the best). However as you have to hold the grips quite tightly over chunky terrain it ended up hurting my hands more.

Switching to death grip supersoft let me hold the bars loosely keeping the muscles relaxed and comfort followed.
I tried the new ergon enduro grips recently to re-check. My hands took weeks to get back to normal 😂

So if you really want big grips, those foam ones are comfy and really help shock adsorption and damping. However if doing techy terrain then sticky is the most important thing.
