Avoid Peaty's like the plague.

Stans and Halo have worked really well for me. Pretty sure it's the same tape, just a different colour.

I had a shop put some new tape and tyres on when they trued my wheels. They used Peaty's because that's what they sell. I later went to sell those wheels and when I took the tyres off the tape was lifting and there was rock hard dried sealant and glitter everywhere. All over the bead walls, stuck to the tyre beads, fresh sealant under the eges of the tape. The tape came off in strands and it took most of a day to clean all the dried sealant off. I will never ever use Peaty's tubeless stuff again. 5 years on Stans before that and never had an issue. It wipes clean and the tape lasts for ages.

I think you meant to say "shoulder of rims", not sidewall. You should never, ever have tubeless tape on the sidewalls of the rims.
No I meant to say sidewall. E.g. a 30mm wide rimbed I would use 35mm wide tape so the edge of the tape goes up the side and under where the tyre bead sits.

Been doing it this way over 10 years never had one tyre pull the tape off.

I should add I think sealant type will play into this.
Stans sealant doesnt dry, so the only thing to peel up the tape is tire bead friction, and a tire lever.

Something like orange seal or the new wtb sealant will more literally glue the tire to the tape, and possibly make it lift off the tape when you break the bead.

"side wall" is a part of the tire itself. "shoulder" I've not head before as a term though. I assume you mean running the tape up and under the bead hook? Well past the bead seat with the little bump and actually goin up vertically to the hook? I get pretty close to that on my tape jobs. jam it right in the corner.

I also have muc-off currently, and have had no problems. But I haven't changed the tires (yet, but soon) or tried to remove it. I'm hoping it won't be necessary. I also have used some tape that is gray and shiny, and I found that to be hard to deal with because it didn't have much stretch. Not sure what brand that is. And I almost forgot, I also used e13 tape and that seemed fine.

I follow manufacturer recommendations which sometimes allows the tape to creep up the sidewalk. Works for me.
I had that happen once when I dropped the roll, but it was on a hill so it sped up until it left the sidewalk and went into the grass.

I usually use WTB/Stans tape, but one set has Mucoff due to covid price nonsense. The only time I've had to remove any of them is when I replaced a spoke. I always do the tube thing for cheap insurance.

I think it's all about the installation.

First I wipe the rim down with alcohol, then I apply the tape about 4 inches at a time, using a heat gun to warm up the tape and rim. I then stretch the tape as tight as I can, apply it, and press/smooth the tape down with my thumb. I then mount a tire with a tube, inflate it to about 50 psi, and leave it overnight. It takes a while to do, but is very reliable and durable with just about any half decent tape.

That said, I use DT Swiss tape because I prefer to stack the deck in my favor.

Reserve rim tape is the GOAT. I've rarely used a bike product that is so much better than the other options out there. Stan's is fine but not as easy to apply.

Muc-off is the worst tape I've used. Bubbly mess to apply. Bleeded sealant under the end of the tape, not very durable, and just appalling to remove. It took me probably 45 minutes per rim to get all the residue out. Come to think of it, every Muc-off product is the worst product I've used...

The best rim tape that can be reused and in may case was the only thing that worked good with Spank rims. Normal sticky tape would not stay stuck to Spank rims, but these Caffelatex rim strips are INCREDIBLE.

I agree it's the installation. I don't often do the tube thing, but if I haven't taped wheels in a while I will frequently end up with blisters on my thumb and index finger from pressing the tape into the rim bed.

I've used Whiskey, general kapton tape (what spank sells) and the muc-off tape successfully with Spank rims. Well, with the exception of cleaning the crap off from the muc-off tape.
