Front was a light and supple., Made me feel like i had 0 confidence haha.

Ordered some contis today
I gave the guy buying my Trance the option of multiple sets I had lying around and he chose the light and supple teravails. They're not my problem now...

I spoke to my Ranger to SST comparisons earlier, but also had a Banshee Phantom v3 right after the Revel. I liked the Phantom better than the Ranger in 90% of riding, and only sold it to make room for the SST. I think thy are very similar bikes. Banshee has a longer rear end, with or without the long dropouts. The Banshee stiffness/stoutness and slacker geometry were the things that made me like it more than my Ranger. I think the SST frame/shock is likely a bit heavier than the Banshee, neither are flyweights. The slightly shorter rear end on the SST is nice, but it cannot fit as much tire as the Banshee with the long dropouts - with the short dropouts they are very similar, I wouldnt put more than a 2.4 in either one. I ran the Banshee in the slacker setting with the correct to spec 130mm fork, and running a 140 fork on the SST.

The DPX2 came off the Banshee immediately, and I used a Manitou Mara and CC coil on the Banshee. I have tried a CCDB IL coil on both bikes, and think the little coil works better on the SST than the Banshee. Not sure what the actual progression numbers are on each bike - I had to run a 650 spring to not bottom all the time on the Banshee (never tried a 600 on it to be fair, only 550 and 650) and while a few pounds lighter now, am content with a 550 on the SST when I have the coil on there. The fact that both can run coil is a big plus for these bikes IMHO.

The SST doesnt pedal bad but with either the Manitou Mara or CC coil I had on it I think the Banshee may pedal a tiny bit more efficiently with the linkage it had.

Overall I would give edge to SST as I am liking the handling balance better, it is a really good looking bike and there is something to the solid but muted feel when cornering on it that is really fun, don't know how else to say it.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good tool bag fpr the SST? Been running a wolf tooth roll-top bag, but I'm finding that velcro straps just don't hold very tight to the thinner top tube or the down tube (cables/hose get in the way and prevent a tight fit, so it slides around on rough descents). Been considering something like a wolf tooth B-RAD mount/strap or a 76 Projects Piggy, but wondering if anyone has other recommendations. Looking to store a multi-tool, tube, lever, and CO2 inside the front triangle.

Also, in case anyone's thinking about it, I'm currently running a 160mm DVO Onyx up front and it absolutely rocks. Very precise on the techy ascents, and with a nice monster-truck front end for when you just want to go really fast. Still need to play with the suspension, and might reduce my stack height, but so far very happy with overforking.
Just to follow up on this, I ended up going with the 76 Projects Piggy, which allows me to mount a small bag and move the watter bottle cage up a bit. My bottle (Camelback Podium 21 oz) just barely fits in this congifuration, so I put a decal under the top tube to keep the bottle from rubbing the paint. It works, but I'm thinking about going to a bit slimmer bottle to avoid rubbing.

The bag is a little small to avoid conflicts with the rear shock, so I ended up creating a small plug out of an expanding rubber gasket to turn my steerer tube into a storage compartment. Only fits either a CO2 or a couple tire levers and some other small stuff (zip ties, etc.), but that saves me a lot of space in my tool bag. Only cost a few bucks at the hardware store and as long as I wrap up whatever I store in a bag, it doesn't rattle whatsoever.

Is there any chance that wing nut could hit your fender? Before CC made its own Helm fender, I ran the rigid carbon one from Carbon Wasp and could smack that with the crown on big hits.

76 Projects makes some cool stuff. I run their valves and Wahoo enduro mounts.

Ha, that's a really good point, thanks. I just checked and indeed it does. The gap between the crown and the fender is only a few mm when fully compressed. Well, scrap that idea. Might see if I can redo the gasket to get it and the nut to fit fully inside the steerer tube, then.

Here's a 3d printed solution that's basically flush.

^Cool pics of the Reeb inner workings.

Just got back from Southern Utah and now local riding is beginning to open up. Feels good to be on this bike; it's a real treat.

For this year, a few impactful changes:

Purgatory Rear - so far, a good tire for what/how I ride. More grip than the Syerra. Tracks, pedals and brakes better. Just enough bite for predictable slide n catch.
TRP Slate Evo brakes, rotors and FreedomCoast levers - very consistent brakes and good lever feel. The metal flake finish is pretty close to the Citylights

^these two changes have set a new high water mark for feeling 'control' on my SST. I like it.

I had to get these levers. They feel much better than the stock lever + seem to be an exact match for my prismatic universe paint. Little bit blurry picture but you get the idea. Thanks for recommending!

Hey hey - With the Steezl out and about, do y'all want me to combine SST & STEEZL into the heading of this thread so those are in the same space? Or prefer separate threads?

I’m pro-combo thread. I think the compare and contrast is natural and will crop up anyway.

Personally, I like the idea of separate threads.

First, anyone searching for either SST or Steezl will need to sort through a lot of discussions in a joint thread to find info specifically about either bike.

And second, separate threads offers more promotional opportunities for Reeb. I'm not invested in too many companies, but I'll always rep the Reeb brand. So giving them more opportunities to spread the gospel is a positive in my mind. And separate threads just provides additional avenues.

I think Reeb deserves its own category under the Manufacturers section. Just sayin, MTBR...

What you meant to say was...

"Is anyone in this thread interested in a house for sale? I just built up my SST and realized I'm low on funds, so the house has to go. I absolutely LOVE the house, but c'mon, I can always get another house...."

There, I fixed it for you.

is anyone in this thread interested in a size large xo1 sst with eewings carbon wheels and 2023 rockshox stuff?? i absolutely LOVE this bike to pieces but i just closed on a house and i may have to liquidate a few things to make some funds available….
