I don't go anywhere without my wallet, period. So I keep it slim and minimal so it's never a burden. If your wallet is so bulky that putting it in your pack is cumbersome, you probably have too much crap in your wallet. Put your wallet on a diet, George, and this will no longer be a problem. Look for a "front pocket wallet" as those are much thinner.

Are some of you just now discovering that you can use a thin wallet? I've been using one like that for over a decade.

Technically, aren't we required by law to carry some form of identification at all times? I know I don't when I'm riding, hiking, etc.
What does technically mean? You either do or you don't.

There are some activities that may require it, obviously driving is one of them. Voting might be another, where a DL is one of many accepted forms of ID. International border is the last one I can think of in a minute of thinking about it.

What does your google fu or AI tell you?

No idea why you'd need to carry your license while riding. You should have your license number memorized. If a cop asks give him the number. He can look it up. I only carry my wallet in my pack when riding trails i drove to because I'm not leaving anything in rig worth stealing. But if im just fartin around town on my bike ill leave my wallet at home.

I thought I heard somewhere one time that if you were stopped by a police officer, that you needed to provide an I.D. if they asked for it, if not they could arrest you. This being said, I'm not paranoid not carrying a I.D. when I'm out on the trails.

Varies by state, most do not require you to present ID unless you are operating a motor vehicle. If a LEO has reason to suspect you have committed a crime, they are empowered to take you into custody. If they are unable to articulate a reason and they are just fishing, you can legally refuse. Generally they need a very rock solid suspicion to push for an ID and there are countless YT's of so-called 4th amendment activists who push the cops to make legal mistakes trying to ID. My attitude is if I am on a bike and a cop stops and wants ID, I will give it to them, as otherwise they can take me into custody until they can identify me (technically illegal most places) and they have no obligation to bring along the bike I am riding, which gets left behind. I don't want that.
