I contemplated the same, about the Last bikes. They look awesome. There are other ebikes from Europe that I would love to own. The Rodwild light emtb being one. Focus being the other.

Timing needs to be coordinated, but what is preventing you from going on a vacation? Go hire a guide and ride the bike while there, and pack it dirty as souvenir when you ship it home?

If you are a family man then, of course thats a different story. You want something enough, you can make it happen. Having said that, only you can decide the effort vs the reward.

Not sure about import duties when bringing it in to the U.S., but you should be able to reclaim the 20% VAT included in the European pricing if you pick it up yourself and do the paperwork when you leave Europe. I'd think hard about things like how you would handle warranty/crash replacement.

You can reclaim the VAT which will probably pay for the trip to Europe. I have a place in Spain which I used to being my Van Nicholas over. I'm bringing another Dutch bike over in March. Not as hard as you might think particularly if you keep it in the original box loading into the aircraft

If they would ship, you wouldn’t pay the VAT either… I’d go get it, ride in Austria, and fly home with it… with a VAT refund

While it does require someone to travel across the pond, I've brought bikes to the U.S. from Europe as oversized luggage while on vacation. Fast and cheap, if there's any additional baggage charge at all (was able to bring a bike across on AA at no charge at all). You can do this both yourself, or by asking someone you know to do it as they traveled. Both have worked for me.

I have a trusted work mate that has a place in Monterey Mexico, I'm looking at options.

However, I must at least consider warranty and parts availability.

Thanks for the responses; I'll update.

Just one other thing to consider, you could book a guided alpine crossing whilst here (like from southern Germany to Lago di Garda), an experience well worth the trip.
Yes! That would be such a fun trip!

Was lucky enough to ride up to the Tremalzo pass from Riva del Garda in 2018. Ridiculous scenery... at least for this flat-lander. The ride down was more fun :p
