Anybody know of a good deal on the lower-end shimano or TRP brakes? Looking for wife's bike, I'm tired of fitting the DOT brakes she has on them and want a set-and-forget type brake. Thinking the Shimano BR-MT410/420 would be good for her, or the TRP Slate T4. I like the cup bleed style on both, and I think they would suit her riding style better. I've done some looking, but some of you guys are amazing at finding better deals.

There's often deals on eBay. Formula Cura's were going for a good price last I checked. I would shop used on pink bike if you don't want to spend much though. I just sold a set of deores for 100 shipped in like new condition. Consider magura too. Their entry level brakes are great but you have to factor in replacing the OEM pads because they are junk. You'll bleed them just like a Shimano cup. Thread in a naked syringe and use it like a cup.

You can get M4100 brakes for $60 per wheel at Competitive Cyclist. Subtract another 11% if you use AJ. So $105 for a pair.

Sort of the point of diminishing returns . . . unlikely to find many quality options below $105/pair and the features/quality you get for higher end models may not matter to your spouse.

Shimano BR-M4100 Disc Brake - Components

EDIT: or get the rear at Cambria (per post #5 above) and the front at CompCyc for a total of $99 if its worth the tedium.

I went with the MT410's off Cambria and they got here 2 days later. Since they are for wife's bike it really came down to reliable setup. I've had her on higher end brakes for years, albeit older models, and I just can't (don't want to) maintain them they way they need. She also rides slow, so it's not like the fancier things are necessary. I'm hoping the entry level brakes will do the job just fine without any of the issues. With tax it ended up being right under $120 which was all I had extra to spend.
