I've got a SB160 and when running the stock Fox X2 (using Yeti's settings) it feels really fast in large rock gardens, the bike carries speed and doesn't slow down. It's an amazing feeling. I ordered an EXT Storia Lok v3 coil which was tuned for the Sb160, but on this first ride with Storia (also using recommended settings), it feels like the bike doesn't carry speed as well in rock gardens. Like the rear wheel is getting "hung up" on repetitive square hits, reducing overall speed.

I think the spring rate/sag feels good so i'm assuming it's some combination of compression/rebound that need tweaking? Wondering if anyone has felt this specific issue before and what they did to fix it. Any ideas?

Thanks

I had a very similar issue with a Storia on a Kenevo SL. The best I could get it to feel was to almost close the HSC damping to stop it going into holes and to also open the rebound as fast as I could deal with but I never found a perfect tune for this exact scenario. I do have a slight caveat though....I ran the shock like this for about a month then the reservoir pressure escaped. I got it serviced and when I refitted it the bike was back to feeling harsh over repetitive hits at the same settings. I could never get it feeling good again after that service. Tried a Push after this shock and that was a complete let down (that's another story for some other day).

My advice..put the X2 back on.

Sounds like my experience with EXT. It was massively over-damped. I had EXT try to tune it 3 times and my self-tuned Marz Bomber RC was a lot better. Ended up going with a tuned Ohlins TTX 22m, but the EXT was just bizarre, so over-damped it was like running an air-shock, rebounding and pinging off all the high speed bumps and chatter. No "coil-hugging-terrain" feeling, which is exactly why I like coil, for the massive traction/control.

Sounds like too much HSC to me.. Or too much HSR. Send it back for a retune. Don’t they offer a free retune if they get it wrong the first time?
They do - trying to see if there's any adjustments I can make before using up the free retune. I'd also like to have a specific sense of knowing what's wrong before getting the retune... i.e. "too much HSC".

I'll call and see if they have any suggestions for setting adjustments as well before the retune, just wondering if anyone had this specific issue before and what they did. I sure hope it's not just the shock itself.

Sucks to hear the EXT wasn't as good after a re-tune. Dang - wasn't a fan of the Push either? What did you end up going with?

So a coil for people who prefer an air shock, but want to have a coil like the cool enduro kids.

I would be interested to learn what shim tunes you had before on comp & rebound and what bike, riding style etc and if they changed both or one at a time and to what ? Its worth noting that there is one on-line supplier (bike shop selling on-line) who is supplying standard "generic" tunes on V3's, (fine if you fit exactly within the criteria of bike, weight, etc etc.) but this is most certainly NOT what EXT are all about and I would always strongly recommend talking though your requirements with your local EXT guy before making any purchases to ensure shim spec tunes are exactly as EXT intended any disp/supplier should always offer a FREE after sales re-tune if not happy, myself included. It almost appears that the people that have not been happy are the ones that have off the shelf tunes to start with ? Maybe maybe not ? more info needed.

What's your tune code, weight and settings?
Rider weight is 175

Also for reference is the X2's tune/settings from Yeti - felt really good with no tweaking

Well that's bizarre. Our school-kid has an SB150 and his 2023 FLOAT X2 is a CL, JCR010 Rezi BV3
I thought they might be similar tune. But no. Every shim stack is different.

Open up all the settings and see if it still hangs up. I can't remember the last time I followed recommended setting, they never make sense and rarely work. How could a recommended setting work for different rider types and on different bikes?

It's not teh difference between air and coil unless the col is too stiff, though a progressive coil might be better depending on your bike.
