Bought a used rigid SS last year just to try it out, FS got dustier and dustier... rode FS last week for old time sake, frame cracked... woohoo, bye bye guilt for not riding the FS anymore. Just finished building a rigid SS 29'er, now my SS 26" is starting to look at me like my FS used too. :( Lucky for her she has a flip-flop hub, she'll be my fixed ride for the towpath or road when trails are too muddy.

After 10 years of hard tails, I built a RacerX100, and the Bontrager went unridden for a while. Add a Vicious rigid fork and an ENO wheel, and it's SS time! Now I've got two bikes I can't wait to ride. So far, they're getting equal love; we'll see if that changes.

Of course, a past precedent was set for this in choosing between the Moots road bike and the LeMond fixie on the other side of the basement. :D And that's been going just fine as well.

I started on a 4" jekyll, then went to a lighter, faster scalpel, now am on a full rigid ss since last July. I would have never thought ss was for me, but some friends talked me into it. I can count the number of times I've riden the other bikes on one hand since then.

More of the same

Bought a Specialized Epic in '03, my first FS bike. Loved it, it's a great bike. Then last year my buddies convinced me to try SS. Built up an Ionic JR. In the last 9 months I've ridden my FS twice. Not only is the rigid SS more fun to ride, it's actaully made me a better rider. (forces you to pick better lines, hold momentum, etc..) I'm currently building a rigid SS 29er and recently bought a SS road bike. My guess is the FS will be on the chopping block pretty soon.

As they say, horses for courses. For most of the local trails here in Dallas, the rigid SS is just fine. I may build a geared HT in the future but for right now, I'm really liking the simplicity of the rigid SS.

Funny side note: even with 27 gears, I never felt like I was in the right gear. With one gear, I'm never in the wrong gear.

I had a Specialized FSR XC, great xc bike suspension was nice, but then i got this crazy idea to try a ss, because of the simplicity of it. I bought a Bianchi SASS made some changes to the bike and off i went. My first ride out i was hooked. I rode all last year and my FS bike just sat in the corner. The ss thing is so much fun, a quiet drive train is nice and you are always in the right gear. 6 months ago i sold my FS bike and i have to truly say i dont miss it one bit...

I had a Specialized Enduro FS for about a year. A used rigid single speed 29er came up for sale on the local mtb boards. I did some research about the 29er idea and decided to take a chance and take the plunge. I use to think SS riders were nuts. Why would you even only what one gear? Well, now I know. After getting the SS 29er and riding it for about a month I decided I should ride the Spec. FS again. It only took one ride to know I wanted to get rid of that bike. Part of the reason was it being a 26er. I bought a used 29er frame on ebay and built it up as another SS. I still have and ride both of them, but one is now setup as a fixed gear. I just added a geared Full suspension 29er to the fleet though, but won't really get to ride it until spring.
