You don't have to say it, I'll say it for you: a cheap Chinese brake set. Recipe for a downhill disaster, no? Well before you jump to that conclusion, remember that the Shimano Deore 4-piston set that sells for around $300 has an avalanche of online review complaints, mostly about oil leaks. Personally, I'd rather take a chance with $80 than $300, brand-name or not. Also, these are Shimano Saint / Tektro Orion brake pad compatible. That's nice for me since I already have Tektros on another bike --- for $275. $80 vs. $275...

Besides the obvious possibility of oil leaks (and that remains only a possibility; mostly good reviews of this kit), there are two other caveats to this kit: one reviewer could not bleed the brakes because the olive housing is flimsy, so they may be a one-and-done purchase that can't be bled later. Well, IMO if there are no leaks to begin with, my experience is that I can usually get 3000-4000 miles out of a hydraulic hose before it's done and really needs a bleed. 3000-4000 miles for $80 and 2 hoses/calipers is a no-brainer...assuming they have the same stopping power as 4-piston Orions or Deores. Second issue is that they only come with 160mm rotors; there is no 180mm or 203mm option when ordering. For a kit that costs $80, BIG DEAL. If you don't like 160mm rotors, give them away or throw them away (but please don't use them as frisbees). I'll buy these once my front SLX finishes giving out, it's about 2/3 there. I'll review again later after purchasing these and maybe a 200 mile test.

This was enough to put me off, though it's not a proper test/scripted to some extent...

Even considering these were two pistons compared to four like you've mentioned, why not wait for an older second hand pair to come up for sale? I often see XT/SLX 2 piston pairs for sale for $150-200 NZ dollars (so maybe $100-150 USD).

Because shimano isn't worth buying when they'll give up after a very very short while

The vast majority of Shimano users disagree with you, and that’s not even considering the effective warranty policy.

Shimano brakes aren’t perfect, but your statement is extremely exaggerated.
Leaky seals. Sticky levers, cracked pistons; one or more of each on 5 occasions. I don't know if it's my luck or what but this has happened so many times i just don't trust Shimano anymore.

I swore no after 3 failing brakes yet i took 2 more chances after getting convinced by my mates to buy them again, lo and behold same things happen again.

Even though others have no issues, there are still plenty of people here and on other forums with issues, similar or same to mine.
So i'm just not going to buy them again, i now use TRP's which are so reliable and have replacements available in the case that i need them.

There was something seriously wrong with how they set up those brakes. Reliabily aside - if the lever was firm, than the brakes should work fine. Those ZOOM's are not all that different than MT200s.
Reliability wise - I have a set of Zoom HB100 hybrid brakes and once caliper has already died - after less than a year it started to leak, ruining a new set of pads. Up to that point, they were good brakes - as it, the stopping force was ample.

Any reviews on the ZTTO 4 pistons yet? I'm just about to pull trigger on some cheap brakes for 2 builds and i have it pared down to these or MT200...what a strange choice; reliable but def not strong like a 4 piston (mt200) or take a chance on unknown 4 piston brakes for same price? also the ztto looks rather nice and has color choices...

Here's all the reveiw info I could find online...not looking good...

Reviews:
Levers are awkward and long. They don't have position adjustment, just a free stroke adjustment. Very well made and very powerful brakes. (sorry didnt get link)

  • RUSSIAN REVIEWER SAID THE ZTTO WITH ZRACE HANDLE OUTPERFORMS THE MEROKA BOTH IN QUALITY AND RELIABLILITY - RECOMMENDDED ZTTO m840 + ZRACE handle
  • but he already had both brakes to do this experiment...most of us would not order this to try it..

"I went on a black trail and my levers were hitting the grip. I changed the break levers to shimano ones and the same problem. Ive bled them many times and I've done all the tips and tricks to try to make em work right for serious MTB but in my book it is a no go. I have come to the conclusion that for breaks and transmission go with the known brands. Let me put it this way, I have a bike with entry level tektro hydraulics and its way better than these."

Filipino youtuber installed these in 2 bikes and says : i dont have any problem with the brake, no leak, good power, easy to bleed, good quality of paint not easyly faded, im using this one in competition. In comments a guy said after 5 mos not working anymore…

my goodness we need a real review of these brakes....maybe wolftick youtube channel will get to them one day.

Anyways i have a set of these waiting to go on my new EMTB build over this winter. i will try to remember to post a review but it wont be until middle of next riding season at the earliest (i hate canadian winters)

There are areas to save money on a bike. An unknown brakeset with mediocre (at best) reviews is not the place to be saving $$$$.

These Zrace levers are actually pretty nice. Swapped out the Mt200 levers for these and they work great. Haven't done any serious riding with them, but they're an upgrade from the Mt200 levers (understand its a lowish bar). I have had great success with some Zoom Hb-876 brakes. Used them on 2 different builds and have had no issues with them. They might even be slightly better than my tektro HD-745 (outside of the need to remove caliper to replace pad), but longevity will be the question.

Anybody know if the Ztto Core4 is a decent set?
