I'm 90% sure the swingarms on the bikes are all the same (looking at my buddies M compared to my XL). It looks like the mounting points for the linkages are what adjust the chainstay length based on size...not the swingarm itself.
Hahaha glad I posted this dumb idea before embarking on a $4.5k experiment.

Really interesting, detailed Megatower V2 review I just stumbled across. Seems to go against some of the things others have said about playfulness/agility... Good read and touches on a lot of things I was curious about. I haven't ridden mine yet so I can't agree or disagree with anything said, but I am looking forward to making my own conclusions this weekend..

Blister randomly has some pretty solid bike reviews.

Maybe I spent too much time on my Range, but I would say the MT2 pedals night and day better - that range is a pig and a half going up. I’d say MT2 climbs slightly better than my Enduro.

Going down, MT2 with X2 factory is (for me) right on par with the coil sprung Range. I wasn’t expecting that at all, honestly. I feel like I actually got the best of both worlds(?).

Seems like a lot of reviewers who got the Rockshox rear shock were a bit less gushing. I’m pretty blown away by the X2 - plugged in the SC recommended settings and it was fully dialed on the first lap.

Wish they made an XLT in between the XL and XXL, but maybe trying the high setting will buff out my cornering niggles.

At 6’4” I’m right on the bubble between XL & XXL. After test riding both on admittedly pretty flat trails the XXL just fit my body better as XL felt like my ass was too far back over rear axel. Loving the XXL but honestly it’s feeling a little weird for cornering. Playing with cockpit setup a bunch but can’t quite get it sorted.

So… wild idea:

XXL chainstays on an XL?? Or vice versa?

Cant get over how good the suspension is and how great the bike climbs. Just struggle busing on the sizing.
I know 4mm chainstay length can feel different but I doubt it's going to split the difference between frame sizes. That's a 35mm wheelbase difference between XL and XXL.

Might look at an S5 Enduro if you haven't already - XL Mega wheelbase and XXL Mega top tube. The kinematics of the Enduro are pretty damn good, I don't think you're giving up much to the Mega, especially if you aren't planning to run a coil shock.

You’re so right and it kills me. Hahaha I’ve had 3 s5 Enduros. Epic bike just got tired of breaking them. But sizing is spot on so yes, I’m not exactly not looking for another ;). Kinda feel like the updated version is going to drop any minute (?) which makes it a little hard to pull that trigger.

Really like the refinement of the MT2 - evolution of a known suspension design and it really works. The frame is so well crafted and dialed.

The dude who reviewed the XL MT2 for Vital is 6’4” also and loved it so maybe? Bike does look a little small for him but he’s shredding so go figure.

Front center dims between S5 Enduro and XL MT2 are really close, it’s just that MT2 is a little slacker and has more stack which munches up 19mm of reach.

Ha, I figured you'd probably had an Enduro already. Agree the new Enduro should drop within the next couple months. Same with the Yeti SB160 (SB150 replacement).

Might depend how much time you spend on trail versus the bike park. If predominantly trail then probably lean towards the shorter wheelbase. I don't like buying a bike when I'm between sizes though.. always a compromise. That's the main reason I switched from the Enduro to a Mega - Large Mega is right between the S3 and S4 Enduro.

Great article over on PB where Kazimer rode the MT for the Stone King Rally.

Not much about the MT, but that is what he raced on. What I found really interesting was his suspension setup.

My pressures and settings for my 160 lb weight were as follows:

RockShox SuperDeluxe Ultimate shock: 160 psi / 30% sag. HSC: 4. LSC: 2 at start, switched to 4
RockShox Zeb Ultimate: 55 psi, 1 token. HSC: 4. LSC: 7, switched to 12. Rebound: 8.

SC's recommended pressures for comparison

SuperDeluxe 170 psi
Zeb 170 54 psi

Nothing shocking here, but good data points for everyone.

hes on the newer sdlx and zeb hence the difference in settings

Just got my first ride in on my V2... Lord almighty, I was not expecting that. This thing feels WAY better than the V1! Within seconds of riding it, I was able to hit lines that I never could on the V1 and felt comfortable just about straight away. I am still getting used to how tall it feels and might drop the stem a spacer, but we'll see. Even with a stock tuned 2022 DHX2 with the same exact settings I used on my V1, this bike is hilariously more poppy, has a ton more traction, switches lines like a dream, eats up small bumps, and seems to roll way faster than my V1 ever did.

At first I thought I made a sizing mistake because this bikes reach feels way shorter than my V1 even though the numbers say it's slightly longer, but it just took a couple of runs to realize that I just kept trying to sit down where my seat was on the V2. Once I got past that, I was relieved... One ride in and I am VERY impressed.

This bike definitely isn't just a hype thing, it truly is mind-blowing. Looking forward to spending more time on it this weekend to get a better impression of how it compares to my V1. Going to take time to get things down, but I definitely think I will ride this bike better than I did my V1.

how is 180 lbs using a 400-425 spring? Doesn’t sound right

Ok, was PM'ing with 2supple, but figured I'd post here in case this helps anyone. Got the take off 2022 DHX2 off the Yeti mounted last night. Reduced the stroke to 62.5, installed the RWC roller bearings in the rear eyelet, and tried out the 500 lbs Fox SLS spring the shock came with. FYI I am probably 190 or tad more full geared up with food, extra H20 bottle, etc in my SWAT bibs.

So I always measure rear sag seated, and 500 lb spring with zero preload (or maybe could have gotten another half turn to be true zero, always so hard to tell there) gave me just shy 21mm of sag. So I tightened the preload up 2 full turns, and it was more like 18mm when I re-measured. So I backed it off one turn and left it.

How I measured the sag was sitting on it, pushing the rubber bump stop all the way up, then gently getting off. Had to take the shock off the bike to measure since I was doing it by myself (PITA, but really NBD).

I made a kind of go/no-go gauge for the X2; basically cut a piece of stiff cardboard that is exactly 19mm wide. Very easy to tell with the X2 where you are with sag, the gauge either fits b/w the o-ring and seal about perfect, or is fits easily with too much room (more than 19mm sag), or doesn't fit at all (less than 19mm). Sorry, engineer by trade here...

So when I put the 2 turns of preload on the DHX2 and took it off to measure sag, I was able to drop the gauge behind the coil. It wouldn't quite fit between the body and rubber bumper but was close. Hence me backing off a turn of preload.

Rode it around the street, feels a tad soft, but it's a coil so it's always hard to tell in a parking lot test b/c they almost always feel more supple. Tried to do some carving type turns and hitting the driveway bumps at speed it felt fine. I'll get to try it on Saturday.

SC has their X2 and DHX2 settings identical for a given rider weight, and I used their settings for the X2. So I'm just going to start with the same so I've got a baseline, and go from there. SC says 500lb spring for a 180lb rider, and 550 for a 200. My guess is a 550 will be too stiff, based soley on experience.

TLDR - Seems like the 500 could work, but does feel a tad on the softer side than I'd prefer.

So that said, Fox used to make an SLS spring in 525 x 2.75. They don't anymore, and I've not been able to track one down yet. If anyone has one they want to sell or knows where one is, etc, please hit me up.

Im showing that S4 Suspension in Quebec Canada has 525 x 2.75 for sale.....

All the positive reviews and thoughts here have me tossing around the idea of replacing my Sentinel v2 with a Megatower v2. Long story short, the bike before the Sentinel was a Hightower LT. Really miss the fit/finish and attention to detail from SC, and the lack of frame design gaffes. Extra 15mm wouldn't hurt either. Already running a 38 in 170mm on the Sentinel, so from a parts perspective, would be a pretty clean swap if I were able to hunt down a frame.

Anyone here come from similar long legged trail bike and switch to a Mega? I don't ride XC and have the terrain to justify a bigger bike in WA. Wondering what some real life thoughts are on the Megatower 2 as a "one-bike"...

Just curious, is it just the brake line through the rear triangle that isn't guided or is it the RD cable too?
