My OneUp pedals came stock on my bike. I liked them right off the bat and they served me well. A few weeks ago one of them seized. I went to the LBS and they had a pair of Stamp 1 pedals for about $50. They are almost identical in size and cost of the OneUp's that were on my bike. It appeared almost apples to apples swap. First thing I noticed was my feet started slipping a little more than they ever did. I wrote it off to new and smooth finish. As it continued I started looking closer and comparing my old OneUps to the Stamp 1. I noticed the pins near the middle (at the axle of the pedal) were lower than the body and at least an 1/8" lower than the ones in the middle on my old OneUps. So I screwed them out as far as they would go. They are still low as you can see in the lower picture. I'll ride tomorrow and see if there is a noticeable improvement.
I just noticed looking at these pictures that the OneUps actually have some pedal treads... The Stamps are smooth???

Interesting.

I have a new bike with Stamp 1. I had been riding RF Chesters. My initial impression was better grip, if nothing else because the pins didn't have 4 years of wear on them. The Stamp also are a bigger platform, and I appreciated that (and I think the pins were engaging "fresher" parts of the shoe sole that weren't as chewed as the central portions).

My riding buddy rides newer Chesters and we swapped bikes and one of his first comments was "your pins are short."

I have also had a couple of slippage/bounce off events that are unprecedented (same ol trail, same ol feature, new slip), and that may be the reason.

I think you have supplied the explanation.

I’ve had a set of Stamp 3’s for 3 years now, and have loved them. So I picked up a pair of stamp 1’s on sale for like $35 to use on my casual neighborhood/commuting style bike.

The first thing I noticed after taking the pedals out of the package was 1) how small the pins were compared to the ones on the stamp 3’s, and 2) how the pedal body wasn’t a uniform thickness on the stamp 1’s.

As you noticed, the axle housing portion of the stamp 1 is raised, which basically means the pins are below it/flush with which means noticeably worse traction. Given most shows will bend the sole around it to some extent, so traction is still not half bad. Just it’s noticeably worse than the Stamp 3’s.

In comparison the stamp 3’s are totally flat on both sides and the pins stand proud of the whole thing by a good 3-4mm.

Given for the purposes of the bike it’s totally fine as is. But if I planned on riding real mountain biking with them, I’d be swapping the pins out for something longer.

Take a pin out of the new pedal and see if they have spacers(washers) between the pin and pedal, if so take the spacers out to get more Pin to poke through.

I use DMR V12's and always go for the longer pins.
I took a few out and there are no spacers or washers, just the screw (pin) and the locking nut. Exactly the same on the OneUp pedals as well. In fact, same length and size screws. The Stamp 1's pedal platforms are a little thinner that over all than the OneUp's. They are very similar. It seems to be where the pin stops are positioned when they mold them. If the stop was a little deeper on the holes nearest to the axle, those pins would stick out further?

I seem to recall a thread here or maybe on Pinkbike. They found replacement pins at the local hardware store for a few bucks.

I’ll have to see if I can dig it up and see if they list the type/size they went with.

Edit: found it.

Looks they are M3 pins. A link there to an Amazon listing for $8-10 bucks for 50-100. Lowes/Home Depot/ace whatever might have them cheaper.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet they have them at our local hardware store. It's a well stocked store.

I think a box of 100 cost me two bucks. If I remember correctly 3x10mm for the oneUps

I have both pedals and hate the stamp's but they came on the bike and now sit in a parts bin, I like the oneup's and will probably switch back to those as they grip better than most pedals I have used. For the moment I am using some dmr vaults, but I believe you should be able to find some different length pins to fit your pedals as I have two or three different pins for each the vaults and the oneups.
