Do shimano chains work okay on Sram chainrings?

I’m not doing AXS but a deore cassette and shimano chain could be better performance and cheaper option than an NX cassette and chain.

My XT chain worked fine on my SRAM chainring. Like I mentioned, it didn't on my AB NW chainring, so I suppose there's some YMMV going on.

I was going to do this, one of the last dream builds I read off of bike/beta had this drive train set up. But I decided I didn't want to drive to a trailhead and discover I didn't charge a battery, or left it on a charger, etc. So I just stuck with mechanical...

I'm not too worried about that.
1. Most of my riding is right out of my back door. There is almost 40 miles of singletrack about 20 yards from my door.
2. My plan is to have 2 batteries, one can charge while the other one is on the bike or throw a spare in my bag.

Mostly yes, but not always. Sometimes you can just run a SRAM master link on your Shimano chain and the Shimano chain will be fine. Sometimes, like on AB chainrings, the entire chain will catch. Which is why AB specifically sells a chainring that mounts on SRAM 3 bolt cranks, but is compatible with Shimano chains.

Also, SRAM shifts better with the Shimano chain mounted.

For those of you who have gone to axs wireless but kept a shimano cassette and chain, is there anything I need to worry about? Current setup is SLX drivetrain.

Thanks
I’ve been running SRAM AXS with a Shimano XT cassette and chain for over a year with no problems.

I went from full XT 12 speed to AXS upgrade kits on two bikes at this point.

On each bike I had to shorten the chain by one set of links (one inner and one outer link).

On my original swap, my Ripley, the XO1 AXS kit has been flawless.

The GX AXS I put on my Middlechild has been giving me issues and at this point I have to assume is a defective motor assembly. I'm getting it set up to return to the dealer right now and I'm really interested in how Sram handles the issue.
What issues did you have?

It will shift into gears no problem, but it clicks like it’s indexed wrong.

No amount of trim adjustments will fix it and it gets worse as the cogs get larger and when the system is under actual load.

Hanger is straight (confirmed by hanger alignment gauge) and once I swap my XO1 AXS derailleur on the Middlechild, the issue goes away.

I even swapped the XO1 cage onto the GX body to make sure it wasn’t a bent cage, no luck. The problem follows the GX motor assembly.

same chain? are you installing the quiklink correctly?
did you perform the trim adjustment on the sprocket most misaligned?

ok at best. The inner plate profile isn't designed to inteface with the Sram Chainring teeth so some sticking has been observed. Better to use the SRAM chain (it lasts a lot longer anyway)

Same chain, different chain. different cassette and wheel, I swapped everything out and quick link is installed correctly. The only thing that gets rid of the issue is swapping out the derailleur.

If I adjust the trim to get it to stop clicking on the 51t cog, the shifting goes to crap. As you try and go back down the cassette it tries to go back up to the previous gear and falls back off.

sounds like a warranty case. It may need the firmware reflashed

completely agree
or switch it to an 11speed mode because I'd use that for XCO
I ran my AXS for a while like this just using the high limit to prevent a shift into a non existent 12th gear.
Worked well, just if I tried to shift into 12th, it would require 2 shifts to go from 11th to 10th. Wasn't a problem in the real world.
