Double post from general discussion. Didn’t think to post here.
Doing PMBAR this year, looks like it might be a wet year. Riding my ss and starting to game wet tire choices....I've spent time riding Pisgah in the past, just never in the wet. My normal tires are Icon or Barzo front with Mezcal on rear. Is it worth the added rolling cost to swap to something like DHF/DHR, I've heard PMBAR can have a TON of gravel climbing

Ride what you are comfortable riding. I've done close to 10 PMBARs and you dont want to be out there riding new stuff, eating new food, trying new things. Its a big day and you need to be comfortable.

Unless you are going for a top 5 or the win, PMBAR is about survival and always moving forward so dont stress speed, etc too much.

Ride what you are familiar with
Don't take too many breaks... seconds = minutes = hours and you DO NOT want to be out there after dark.
Eat often and eat things you are comfortable with
Don't carry too much extra... food, required gear, and water/filter are all you need.
If S. Mills is a checkpoint take Turkey Pen Trail. everyone avoids it but its the fastest way from Black Mtn to S. Mills
Dont take Bradley Creek unless you have to.

Have Fun!

Good stuff… looking forward to it! No stranger to long days in the saddle. Just never ridden wet Pisgah trails. I ran Barzo/Mezcal for Marji and the Pisgah series and that’s a good tire combo for me. I’ll take some beefier tires with just incase it’s pouring.
we did Turkeypen both ways last trip on a ss rigs, what a hike a bike start from mills.

Excellent advice but I'd add one caveat...Don't take Bradley Creek, even if you have to. :)
