A mate just asked me to rebuild their mongoose sector 29er, however, im looking at getting the sealed bottom bracket for it, but does anyone know the actual size I need? Not 100% sure its called a sealed bottom bracket but I do know the bearings on the crank are f*****

Since its a budget bike its probably a square taper bottom bracket. Their are many spindle lengths available so you need to measure the one you have. Check also the way that the cranks are fastened to the spindle. Some use a bolt and other use a nut (I have seen both on mongoose bikes). You will also need to measure the width of the bb shell.

You should be able to find a matching bottom bracket if you do what is described above.

If you are still not sure, you can watch one of Park Tools video on Youtube that goes over all the common BB standards.

srae.sr25,
It is probably a Shimano UN55 or a very similar model. Cranksets like that often have a square taper on each side and the crank arm wedges on the the axle. You will likely need some special tools to get it off. If you can post a few pictures, folks here are more likely to be able to help.
