I’d call it all mountain or trail. I think it climbs quite well for a heavy bike and the downhill is legendary for a bike with cheaper components, must be all that travel on the suspension. My dropper lasted 6 months, replaced it with a Brand-X for $125 and it’s been flawless.
My dropper only lasted two weeks before it had to be repaired. I haven’t thrown it back on yet, but I know when I do I’ll only get a few weeks out of it.

I have to drop my full weight on the dropper a couple times to get it to compress, and then it usually works the rest of the day. It rattles like crazy now though.

I'm sure my local store would fix it for me but I'm not sure I want to bother. I'll probably just replace it with a different one, likely OneUp.

I just bought a Trance X 29-2 in XL for my 6 ft and growning son. The bike came as spec'd except for the brakes - what was supposed to be oem shimano deore equivalent brakes and calipers, it came with Tektro Orion 4P brakes. Yes, they're 4 pot brakes, but no, they're NOT the shimano that the rest of the groupo is. I'm more than a little disappointed in this change of components. All of our other trail bikes, the ones we take on trips, are SLX or equivalent, thus a single set of backup brake pads for us all.

Do you think I'm in the right to call out the bike shop on this? No matter how you cut it, Tektro is a major downgrade from Shimano, and should not be coming on a $3500 bike.
I went back into the shop today. A large 29-2 had the Shimano brake levers and calipers, built within 2 days of the xl I purchased. Filed a claim, think I'm getting ripped off on this one. IF all the new shipment were equipped with tektros, that'd be one thing, but to see another bike with the specd grouppo is something completely different. A little pissed. Not thrilled about reports on dropped longevity either.

Interesting to hear the issues w/ the Giant dropper. I like the simplicity and cost to repair the Giant dropper, but I am leery of its reliability.

My dropper on my Fathom had issues after ~1 year. It was an easy and cheap fix, it uses these plastics pieces and slider. I think one of my crashes where the seat was knocked askew damaged the plastic slider pieces. I noticed a bit more play in the seat for a week after that crash and then it got stuck and wouldn't go up or down.

My lbs has the repair kit in stock ($10) and it was fixed. I initially thought the damper was messed up but it was fine. The damper is only ~$60.

We'll see how long this repair lasts.

About the same time my Giant dropper stopped working, my Fox Transfer had issues. It cost me ~$150 total for repair and to ship it to and back from Fox. That post was ~3 years old and lots of hours on it w/ no issues. However, $150 isn't cheap...I could almost get a spare Giant dropper for that amount...

I went to a loam dropper, my giant dropper lasted 8 months, I took it apart and regreased it and it went another week or two and started acting up again.

The other problem was the dropper was creaking the whole time. Once I went to the loam, it stopped creaking and it works better too. Think I spent 170 on sale.

The Giant dropper on my 29X-3 started to not release to drop. I pulled it out of the seat tube and the collar at the bottom had come loose so the cable couldn't pull far enough to release. Tightened it well and it's been fine ever since. The Giant brand dropper on my 2020 TR29 did fail due to the piston, so I replaced with a one up that has been flawless.

This thread needs more pictures!!
Did someone say pictures??🤣🤣

Just a quick pic of me deciding to continue to abuse this bike, even through the winter...6 degrees, two hour technical single track with Schabble Ice Spiker Pros. First time I’ve ever ridden snow on a 29er. Not terrible if it’s pretty packed down and icy. Unfortunately I tried riding in a good fluffy 6 inches the other day and that didn’t go so hot.

But the bike continues to amaze. Durable, predictable, stable, capable. Knock on wood, I’m totally shocked the cheap SRAM 12 speed drivetrain has held up in the 700 miles of hell I put it through since I bought it in August.

Hello, any idea what bottle size the M-sized inner triangle will fit? Thank you
I barely get a 16oz camelback in the cage, and that requires a side-load cage and a good strong push -- the bottle is not accessible while riding.

Another note, the Alu Trance X 29 3 is up $200 from December '21: it was $2500, now $2700 (+8%). No change in the components. Glad I bought when I did

I bought my Trance X a year ago for $2000 on CL and just sold it for $2300. You don’t see that very often, use a bike for a year and make $300.

2021 Trance X 29 3- XL, lyrik at 160 and a super deluxe out back. I’m 6’3” running a 45mm stem and 35mm rise bar.
Have about 2 months of riding on it. It is rad so far. It pedals impressively well, and has great geo for the steep descents. It does feel big when trying to throw shapes around in the air but I have been w/o a full suspension bike for the last two years and I’m used to throwing around a 5 year old hardtail with a 37mm shorter reach.
