So after a few rides, here is a quick review compared to the v3 wreckoning.
Firstly the STA is much steeper and makes the bike a lot more comfortable, and although I have only climbed fireroards, I notice it climbs as well if not better than the wreckoning.
I also notice I'm not fighting to keep the front wheel down a much so I'm assuming when I get to a single track hard climb it will outclimb the wreckoning.
Its slightly heavier than the wreckoning, my wreck weighed in at 33.8lb.
The kavenz at 34.2, both with coil front and rear.
On the downs the wreckoning feels more playful, more fun but the kavenz is faster and more confidence inspiring.
I ride flats and my feet are staying on the pedals better, and for me that is huge.
Overall I'm very happy, I'm pr'ing trails already and I just cleaned a super Gnarly down that I've only crashed on before.
I can't wait to really get used to it and really fly!

Hi! Happy owner of the VHP16. Full 29”, ext both ends. Waiting for the Era to be upgraded to V2. Does anyone have time on the VHP16 both as mullet and full 29? Tempted to try it as mullet also, but unsure on if I really want to invest into a new rear wheel just to try…

I just converted to a vhp 18. Changed out my era v2 to an intend infinity.
I do like the mullet and I actually think it pedals better.
I am also selling my v2 era with about 200 miles on it if you're interested.

thinking about picking up one of these frames possibly in the vhp15 version but still looking at the 16 as well. are most people running this frame as a mullet or full 29? is everyone still
happy with their purchase? any kinks or things that need to be ironed out with the design?

i was trying to find any info online about the difference between v5 and v6 but it was to no avail.

It's only some of the v5 frames that can run vhp18. All of the v6 frames can run vhp 18.
I got a full 29er VHP16 but ran the VHP15 mount as but 160 travel because of the higher bb for 2 weeks, didn't notice much difference, bb supposed to be 2mm shorter and bb a bit higher.
I haven't though much of the linkage in the 2 month I got to use mine before injury. It just plain works! Got a Ripmo before and handles overall way better for enduro use but pedals really well. Wanna try the longer chainstays when they are available.
For me it works really well, nothing bad comes to mind. You have to asked more specific questions for more specifik answers I guess ;)

I had mine as a 170/160 29er, it's not the best pedaling bike,my old evil wreckoning pedaled better.
I think it's better on the downs though.
I now have it as a 205/180 mullet.
It's a beast and works very well.
Kavenz have been brilliant with any questions and I love the fact they are making add on upgrades to the frame, that way you don't need to buy a whole new bike.

i wonder if the longer rear triangle is gonna come retrofitted for a sram udh! that would be pretty cool. price wise the frame looks pretty appealing compared to some of the competition, and i can’t deny the round tubes and straight lines are very aesthetically pleasing

I've had my Kavenz for over a year now and it still is my favorite enduro frame I've ever owned or ridden. Usually, I buy a new frame about every year but I'm keeping this one a long time. The bike just shreds. I ran my bike as a mullet and full 29er and I like full 29er better. Lots of people love the bike as a mullet.

If you have the terrain for this bike there is no downside. Price is outstanding too considering it's a finely crafted frame made in Germany.

They had posted this timeline of product releases for the year and the socials a while back. I imagine the interchangeable dropouts will also include sram udh (the v7 frame will for sure they said). Although I’m not sure if they will need to space the idler out slightly to accommodate the new chainline for sram transmission too.

I've had mine for just shy of 2yrs now and it's been awesome. My only complaints are all internal cable routing related.

The routing through the head tube seems to be letting a fair bit of dirt in leading to some creaking. The last time I dropped the fork the lower headset bearing had a lot of dirt sitting on it. I picked up some rubber grommets (jagwire i think), that I'm gonna try out to see if it helps. I really wish the cables entered on the side of downtube, using bolt on cover like Knolly does on their frames.

I'm also not a fan of the rear brake line routing through the chainstay. The grommet they provided ripped immediately, so I was using some mastic tape to protect the brake line, but apparently it wasn't enough and there was some significant wear. Even if that didn't happen, I do hate having to disconnect the brake line to remove the rear triangle. I got some stick on cable mounts that I'm going to try when I put the bike back together.

Overall though, I love what they are doing and that they are doing their best to keep most updates backwards compatible.

I'm curious to know if we will be able to retrofit the interchangeable dropouts to existing seatstays or if it will require an entirely new seatstay. I love the bike with the current short chainstays but I'm still curious to see how the bike rides with longer chainstays.

Definitely going to need new seatstays but I think you’ll have a few interchangeable positions on the new iteration. I can’t imagine it will be too expensive, I think they had mentioned having an upgrade program for existing owners? Not sure what that will entail.

Sub'd. Looks interesting. My next bike will likely be a high pivot, just waiting for the right one to come along. This makes at least 4 well executed brands I'm aware of not including DH bikes. Sent from my moto g(6) forge using Tapatalk
I just received my vhp 16 and have the bracket so I can run either mullet or 29. What's really cool is a different shock mount and 10mm longer shock makes the same bike into vhp 18. the Dh version. mY APOLOGIES I hadn't read that this was already explained.

What are all you running for a shock and how are you finding it? I'm on the Storia, and its never felt quite right, for a few reasons.. probably my main complaint with it and the whole bike is it feels high/on top of the bike, like a high BB, which its not a a high bb, actually more on the low side for its travel.. but i get on friends bikes, even ones with similar or higher BB heights and they feel so much more planted, like you can drive the bike through the pedals and rear end and have confidence in it. this has a kind of pogo stick feeling, like the BB is kind of bouncing and never "takes a set".

Part of it too is that i went with a 460 reach frame for my 5'11 height and long armspan, i should probably go to the 480, thats probably only making the on the bike feeling worse. and the overall wheelbase is actually pretty damn short for a 160 bike.

my initial thought was to go to a softer spring, get me more in the sag. But i was having issues bottoming early on unless i was running almost fully open rebound. broke a few rims. and it also felt harsh on super square edge hits, like it was very resistant to moving. I had EXT service it and go for a step lighter tune, which helped with a lot of the harshness, rebounds still set fast and i dont have hard rim breaking bottom outs at least. but then on a lot the bigger, basketball sized, square edge style hits at higher speeds, it feels like its bottoming, (understandably) but then kicks back hard. feels like im gonna go OTB if i hit those sections faster. and ive ridden those sections at the same speed on a 130 bike and had a more composed feeling rear end.

Its a pretty progressive bike, but maybe i should be running an air shock? a progressive coil? or the ohlins coil with that big bump rubber that starts activating super early sounds intriguing.

Its enough of an issue that if i cant fix it with a shock id get another bike.

A 460 reach for your height is certainly on the smaller side and going to make it feel like you're on top of the bike. Most people I ride with around 5'11 ride 475-500 reach enduro bikes.

I've done a lot of testing and tinkering with the Kavenz suspension on coil and air shocks and feel like I have a pretty good idea how to get the suspension sorted. I mainly run an EXT Storia but also a Fox X2 at times. The majority of riders should be able to get the EXT Storia set up well on this bike with the Kavenz tune. The main limiting factor may be the rebound tune depending on spring rate.

How much do you weigh, what spring weight are you using, and what settings are you running? What kind of trails are you riding? It sounds like you're running rebound too fast without enough compression damping. Fast rebound with light compression damping can make the bike feel bouncy and unstable.

I found that the initial spring rate recommendations from Kavenz were on the light side. I'm about 93kg and originally my bike came with a 425 spring. It felt too soft so I tried a 450 and 475lb spring. The 475 is my favorite but the 450 also rides well for my weight. For me I found that the stock rebound tune only worked for 425 and 450 springs. Rebound was much too fast even when closed with the 475 spring so I got the rebound tune changed during the last service.
