2022 element info

So.....
The ONLY question we need to answer is....

.... how does it compare to the Spur?

I’ve had a spur for a year, absolutely love it. Got it built up with a -1 angleset, sid ultimates, x01, next sl cranks, oneup bars, xmc1200 wheelset (180 hubs) transfer dropper. Comes to 26lb. Most fun playful bike for long xc rides mixed in with steep loamy trails I’ve had. (not big chunk / winch plummet days - I take other bikes to that)

with a -1 angleset it is almost identical geo....

But characters could be very different... so.... how does it compare?

YumYum compared the Element to the Spur in his latest live stream. Starting around 49:00 and rambling on for a few minutes after.

cool cheers dude gave it a watch.
I don’t mind yum yums ramblings normally as hes pretty unbiased, but to save anyone else, over 20 minutes he said he prefers the element over the spur because it ‘turns in’ better and the spur was ‘more demanding’ to ride. He doesn’t give a lot away other than saying he loves the pivot 429, stumpjumper non-evo and element the most.

I really wish I could go ride this bike, but I probably won't be able to until at least April at this rate.

Some things I've noticed; Rocky claims it can run a 2.6 tire in the rear, but the Rekon 2.4 is a little snug, so I wouldn't run anything wider due to mud clearance issues.
Also, I know it says on the site, but the C50 and lower specs come with 31.8mm clamp bars, so I will be upgrading those before Spring. However, the rest of the spec is fairly dialed, and I am a fan of the 180mm rotors and 150mm dropper post right out of the box.

I need to raise the seat height another inch or so for my height, but the reach has felt like a perfect fit for me at 5'10/11 on a medium

It's a Medium. I have a 32" inseam so I'm not very lanky for my height, but the reach is about right, maybe a little on the more upright side of things, but not much tighter than my Altitude overall.
If anything a 60mm stem would counter that feeling, but a L would be too big for me.

I'm always on a large
I'm hoping that the changes don't make a size change necessary

Judging by geo charts alone;

Reach;
2022 Element L 475mm
2021 Element L 439mm
2020 Instinct L 455mm
2020 Vertex L 435.2mm

TTH;
2022 Element 632mm
2021 Element 617mm

2020 Vertex 625mm

The Instinct is definitely going to fit more like a large Element, but you might need a 40mm stem to tighten up the reach.
I did fit on a L Altitude, and if that's any indication of fit, you should be fine, my arms and legs aren't long enough for me to comfortably maneuver that bike, and that's what held me on M. I didn't have a L Element in the shop to compare my M to, however.

It'll be longer but the stem will offset that a bit. I think the 2021 element has an 80mm stem and the new 2022 will be a 50 so that shortens it up a bit. That measurement is based on just tube lengths? Or is it based on a caveat of 'w a 50mm stem'?

Stems aren't included in these measurements, but yes, it'll be only 5-10mm longer at most so it shouldn't be an issue.

I watched it too, I was surprised when he said that given he loved the spur when he reviewed it... He even said during the original spur review it might climb better than the Ripley, which I don't necessarily agree.

I'm really intrigued by the Element and it sucks that frames are not shipping for a couple of years, otherwise I would get one. I wonder if the "easy turn in" yum yum talks about is due to the lower stack, giving it a more controlled xc cornering feel

Could you give picture/measurement of seatstay and chainstay for context? I have seen some people accept alarmingly tight clearances, and others want really big ones. Personally, the tire clearance is a plus as I prefer quite substantial clearance, so I’d be bummed if it wasn’t as advertised

Yeah, a 2.6 could fit, especially a low profile one, like a 2.6 Rekon.
I personally wouldn't run a tire much wider than this, as a larger knob tire would be a hassle to put back in without hitting the swingarm every time.
