I Just picked up a ‘19 429 trail XX1. It has guide ultimate brakes. And wondering about the G2 RSC in comparison.

Last year I had to replace the rear xt brake on my epic. The G2 RSC are night and day regarding modulation and flat out stopping when compared to the G2 RSCs. I was used to the xt modulation. Or lack of. Now I have an XT and RSC on the epic. Another story.

The Sram guide ultimates are outstanding!!! They feel is like Shimano.

There is a night and day difference between the G2 RSC‘s and guide ultimate. Am I missing something?

Can I get the stopping power out of the G2 RSC?

I have various Shimano 4 pots and SRAM 4 pots on my bikes. My Guide Ultimates on my Druid are among the best, after I threw a 200 rotor on the front.

I really don’t have any $hitty brakes in the entire stable. I’m happy with them all. We live in good times. Save your cash for something with some bang for the buck. Like AXS…

too many hyperbole to understand what you're asking so I'll venture my personal experience and opinion.
Guide Ultimate with all the latest updates is very similar to the G2 Ultimate. You can update any G2 RSC to G2 ultimate with a titanium bolt kit and carbon brake lever. You can also update your Guide Ultimate brake set to G2 level through changing out the brake master cylinder for the G2 version. There is some subtle changes to the caliper but the reliability changes are in the master cyclinder

I guess I was running through the multiple types I have

I’m just shocked there is such a difference between guide ultimate and G2 RSC. I’m not a even talking about carbon fiber this or titanium that. More on the Stopping power and modulation

How old is the guide ultimate set of brakes?
Has the master cylinder been updated?
There should not be a big difference in performance. G2 SHOULD have a lighter feel at the lever but clamping force should be similar to the ultimate.
Both have better modulation than XT

I assume the guide ultimate is circa '18. while my g2 RSC was purchased in 2020

I'm going to hit the LBS for questions. Take both in to compare

FWIW, my Ultimates are 2018. Put 4+ hours in on them yesterday. Apart from the fact that I need new pads, they performed like a champ. Again though, running 200/180 rotors.

The breaking on the GU are fantastic. Partially because I’m used to Shimano.

The modulation is good. But the ability to perform emergency breaking is to my liking.

I guess I am looking for the same out of my G2. I couldn’t lock them up if I tried. While this is preference, having one XT (front) and one G2 (rear) on the same bike is a task. If they were reversed…. ‘nother story.

Solved: I swapped rotors front to back. 160 up front (xt) and 180 rear (G2).

The breaking feel is more equalized now. The XT modulates and the G2 stops.

Free fix

Is there really any braking performance difference between a 2017 Guide RSC and a G2 RSC 2021?
Install the default "Power" compound pad that comes in the G2 into a Guide and it's the same brake for all intents and purposes in the way it performs.

G2 RSC has bushing rather than bearing in the lever that Guide RSC's have.

I can't imagine there's a huge difference in braking performance though if they're both working correctly with the same pads.

Is there a clear better brake rotor for SRAM G2?
Are SRAM rotors just ok and other companies make better or far better rotors?
same with brake pads?
I would think SRAM OEM stuff should work best since they have all the specs, informatio, tooling, equipmen, money …
