Hi guys, I have a question? I have a 2021 trek slash 8 with the Rockshox Super Deluxe Thru shaft shock.

From day one it has been leaking a little bit of oil after every ride. The guy at my local shop said this is something normal and it might be excess oil leaving the shock. None of my other bikes have ever 'leaked' like this before. It is around 3 months old now with maybe 30 hours of riding.

If some one could advice me whether this is normal or not that would be much appreciated.
Thanks heaps -Alex

That's a lot of oil, and yet not far from normal.

I have a Fox DPS (not same brand) that came from service with a similar leakage. I rode with it for months, thinking that eventually the leak would stop. When I finally opened, there was still a lot of oil inside. Looks like they used oil as a volume reducer.

In short, worry when it stops to leak.

Yep, air can service. Rockys get oily like that when there is a bad seal. Possibly some foreign debri from manufacturing affected the seal. I purchased a new shock years ago and found a metal shaving had scored the damper shaft as the shaving was stuck in the seal. Fortunately it was still under warranty. Manufacturer tried to blame me for causing it, ha!

When damper fluid leaks there is usually a drop in shock performance. Simple start in evaluation would be air sleeve maintenance.
And more specifically, the climb/trail/lock functions usually stop working.

My new Super Deluxe is rather oily and gunks up the travel ring after a few rides, but its not that oily. I have 2 different aircans and swapped out the dust seal with no change so I figured it was normal. Rockshox calls for oil to be added to the negative chamber, I didnt add oil to the negative chamber on a Fox and it never leaked.
