This topic has been brought up before. RT86 is $16 more a rotor. You get Ice-Tech with an aluminum core. Wondering if this is worth it. I don't do long descents. I also read RT76 tend to stay straight. Weight difference is negligible Thoughts on this? Save the $32/pair?
 
It’s not so much the length of the descent, it’s the gradient combined with some length, it doesn’t take a super long descent to overheat, but a very steep descent can do it. So I’d say if you don’t have very steep descents, then sure.
 
My bike shop mentioned they scrub off heat slightly better as well which give better initial braking as well.
They are idiots if the are referring to the 76s. The 86s, sure and I do notice they dissipate heat better. It's not critical for every rider though. Back home, yep. Out here in the plains on a work trip, nope.
