The American River Conservancy has a parcel of ranching land adjacent to Darrington Trail and Salmon Falls Road that is being used to expand the local trail network. About 750 acres of rolling hills, mostly grassland. The Folsom Auburn Trail Riders Action Coalition (FATRAC) and Mother Lode Trail Stewardship (MLTS) have been teaming up to lead the building efforts. Some of you have already shown up to help out. THANK YOU!!! Others doubtless have ridden and explored the area already. Know that more progress is made every weekend.

Plenty of opportunities to come help out these next few weeks. Each work day limited to 20 people, so be sure to sign up and reserve your spot. Sign up using link below:

**Please note: the Cycling Dev days listed are specifically for the local High school MTB teams, who are taking turns helping out as part of their practice schedule. Please sign up for FATRAC and MLTS days.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of actually building new, legal singletrack that is designed by MTB riders to be fun, sustainable multi-use trail.

Aside from the organized days, I'm out there every Sunday/Monday working on some spot or another and can supply 1-2 people with tools and a space to use them.

Just reading the thread title, I had thought they legalized the fun "hidden" gravity trails on top...but looks like it's just a new MUT
.....which will ease traffictraffic on Darrington, provide an alternative to dangerous, over-crowded SP parking lots, give a fun place to ride that's more beginner-friendly, have more options for loops that don't involve dodging shotgun blasts from crazy neighbors.

Not to mention the potential for better race courses for xc races (Clint at Clipped in Races is already drooling over the next Mother Lode Epic route potential) more technical, sustainable, built-by-rider trails, and one if the few projects where singletrack is actually getting built legally. Oh, and next winter's project is a 2-2.5 mile DH with 900ish feet of vert.

Several hundred volunteer hours logged since last fall with 4 nonprofits and a stack of local businesses all throwing in to the effort.

But nothing to see here. "Just a new MUT"

Is dodging gunfire from the hill folk still a thing at Darrington/Sweetwater? Just recently started riding there again after a 10-year hiatus.

Was out there yesterday morning and ran across the Woodcreek HS and Roseville HS teams coming back in. Great to see so many MTB'ers out there and most of the hikers seemed friendly, as well. Was my first time to Salmon Falls/Darrington and it's a fun ride. Can't wait to see what else they have in store.

Woodcreek Director chiming in here. Great day yesterday and we are delighted for more trails in that area for us to train on and everyone to enjoy. Darrington is one of our favorites in the area but it can get pretty crowded if more than one team shows up at the same time.

Will look into getting our kiddos out doing some work on this project.

Don't wait, volunteer.

Excited about having some new trails to ride. Curious as to where it is best to access the trails? I rode the Sweetwater to Salmon Falls out to the Peninsula Campground and was hoping to get a look-see. Just signed up for April 4th to put some trail work in.

You were super close to them on your Sweetwater to Salmon Falls ride....the new Salmon Falls Ranch area is just up the rode & around the corner from the traditional start of Darrington Trail at the bridge crossing the river.

A great XC loop to that includes a nice climb and some fun descending is to park the Salmon Falls bridge (i.e. the traditional start of Darrington Trail that I mentioned above, then roll into the Skunk Hollow parking lot and hit the dirt on the SFART climb (i.e. the trail that climbs up and leads to Cronan Ranch trails), ride the entire rocky SFART climb and just as you crest the top and begin to roll downhill, you'll pass a small green gate and just past that will be a left turn...take that. This trail is a smooth, switchback downhill that crosses two creeks and dumps you into the new-ish Acorn Creek parking area that is just up the road from where you would have parked at the bridge. Roll through the parking lot towards the road, but instead of hitting the road, keep your eyes peeled on the left for signed ARC Concervancy sign, take that. This will lead you UNDER Salmon Falls Road through a Culvert, affectionately nicknmed the 'Skullvert' (you'll see why!). Once you exit the Culvert you will be in the new Salmon Falls Ranch!! Immeditely to your right you'll see some brand new, lumpy, climb trail that was just added in, but you can stay straight for a really nice, short flow, climb, then stay straight and follow the blue trail signs down a fun fast descent all the way to a gate that connects back to the old Darrington trail....go through the gate and you are back where you've probably ridden before (don't forget to lock the gate behind you to keep the cows in).

If you surf around on Strava in this area, you'll see the segments, then can click on people's various rides and see what they do. That is probably the easiest way to get a 'visual' of the area.

YES!! 'Skullvert'...ha! Great advice here, but the bestest thing ever about the Acorn Creek trail is that is allows one to climb WITHOUT riding the exposed, rocky, off-camber, and rather hideous (IMO) traditional start of SFART. Acorn is a nice, shaded and well-graded alternative with perfect switchbacks...really a beautiful mile or so of trail in either direction.

I just looked on google maps, strava, GAIA gps, and see these trails. Excited to get out and try them out!

And of course, the quickest way to see the new Salmon Falls Rance area, is just to park at Acorn Creek trailhead itself....it just up the road, and then on right from the bridge. Then you can start with riding through Skullvert and into Salmon Falls ranch immediately....and if you end up doing a loop, you'll finish with the Acorn Creek descent right back to your car.

Also -- A good friend has been doing HEAPS of trailwork in his spare time on the beginning part of Darrington Trail....the brush and manzanita is now all pruned back as far as it's ever been and sight lines are really good.

What the above folks said. The other day we went parked at acorn creek lot. Up Acorn creek, down Skunk Hollow to SF bridge. Took sweetwater out to Old Salmon Falls Bridge, then Darrington back. Just before the mast rocky section, look left up the valley and you'll see the gate onto Salmon Falls Ranch. Go thru gate. Climb fire road ALLLLLLL the way to top past the cattle chute landing area (a bit over a mile). Come down "Cattle Chute" Trail back to landing, and continue to the right to shoot down the valley on what is currently called "Trail 1B". Come back up fire road again, past the landing area again, but this time at the just before the left-hand switchback near top of climb, bang a right down what is temporarily labelled 6E. Down to Skullvert, and back to acorn creek lot. Fun 11 mil loop with 1500ish ft of climbing

Thanks for the great info! Going to hit it up once the trails dry out a bit!
