Gravel bikes doesn't just mean roadie racing on dirt. Most people who are trying to get into gravel bikes couldn't care less for "groadie" riding. It's a lot more about the freedom to pick your own adventure. A little road, a little dirt, sprinkle some beer in there, lycra optional, even some hiking is acceptable. Do whatever makes you happy! That's the beauty of gravel and adventure bikes. The term is so broad that it can be very inclusive to almost anyone...

Anyways, as mentioned on instagram, I gave the Spice Chopper my old Tomac style gravel bike and today we went out and did a quick shake down ride. Was real cool watching him just absolutely shred on it! Didn't take long before he got comfy and the sending commenced! This is how mountain bikers do gravel I guess... I mean, rocks is gravel just bigger yes? But yea, fun times with the Spice Chopper and Yabang Eddie. The ride was fun and the hang was funner!

Demo was killer today, a little sketchy with the wind. That might have kept the crowds down, as the lot was not as packed as expected. Took my 13yo on his first full Ridge->Sawpit run and he crushed it all, including the rock garden.

Still decent moisture in the dirt on Cussacks, Ridge was pretty solid as well and Sawpit was primo! Seems folks are still afraid of the longer climb out, it was not blown out and still looked almost as good as when it first opened back up. Only saw 2 other riders on it.

Flow was crowded and beat to *hit from what others were saying, which is why I never ride it. Boring + mega braking bumps does not do it for me.

There's gonna be a heck of a lot of ground fall at UC. I live a couple miles up the road and all our primary and backup routes were blocked by big downed trees and electrical lines this morning. Branches everywhere.

The high winds also started multiple fires including along Empire Grade, Bonny Doon.

Rode UCSC for the first time Saturday and Sunday and it was unreal. Did 4 laps (20mi/3500ft) the first day and 2 laps (10mi/1600ft) the second day. The place was bike park busy, but it never really caused on issues. Don't think I'll ever go back to Demo after that...it was incredible. I'm in SLO county and the riding is great, but it's loose and rocky everywhere with full sun exposure. Having the canopy and amazing grippy dirt was a damn treat. Thanks to everyone that pitched in with info for me. It was all useful.
