Cross posted from the racing section, I figure this sub forum has a better idea of the terrain encountered during 5 days in Pisgah.........
I have succumb to the idea of doing PSR this year. I love Pisgah and try to get up there for several 3-4 day weekends a year. I typically ride my GG Smash with Reserve 30 wheels and burly Maxxis DHF/Aggressor combo. I rarely worry about tire issues. Just Smash!
but, for PSR I will be riding my FSR Epic. I have ditched the Brain fork for a SC34. So while I will feel under-gunned compared to my 160/145 Smash, the 120/100 travel Epic should survive the gnar and do well on the climbs. I just dont want to do 5 days 150 miles on the 34# Smash.
To my question:
I am currently running a Forekaster front and Rekon rear. I really like the setup around Georgia, but worry about flats in Pisgah.
Would you guys take the weight penalty of the 85g Huck Norris and stay with a lighter and faster rolling tire? Or bite the bullet and run a more enduro oriented setup?
