I really love 29 plus but I am getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of suitable rims available. I've been trying to get hold of a pair of RF Arc 40 Asymmetric rims for months and the UK importer still doesn't have them. I've toyed with the idea of ordering some I9 Backcountry wheels but the price to the UK is astronomical. As a result, I'm really enjoying my 2.6" tyres on my Ripley.
There are lots of great rims available. The RF ARC 40's are among them (and I have them).

I'd like to see more tweener 3.0" tires. XR4 and DW are great when you need big, meaty, chewy tread blocks. XR2, Chronicle, Rekon, and Cumberland are great for efficiency. But there really isn't anything in between.

Mike, thise Chrony's are like a tempa spare from your wife's Subaru...

The 'tweener tread would be awesome and tweak things up so I don't feel the need to swap tires for my various haunts.

Yes I agree, the XR4 and XR2 are my preferred choice but I'd like to try something like a XR3 in 3.0".

Do you have the arc 40's in stock Mike?...

I've been running the XR3's in 2.4" on my commuter/bike path racer. Fantastic tire, though not sure how much I'd get on with it as a front for honest-to-god MTB use.

I do have the 40's in stock.

Maybe an ikon 3.0 or Trail Boss?

i think i could be happy so long as the xr4 29x3 is made forever. that tire is truly fantastic in anything i have thrown it at so far; and the casing seems just right tough vs supple for me.... put it on both ends in the winter and put on an xr2 out back for the summer (or even a 2.6 like a rekon). i loved the minion dhf up front for supreme confidence but after trying the xr4 i am completely over it.

Well, I just panicked and bought three Minion's in 3.0. They just work too well where I ride. XR4 look great, and it seems that most like them. I haven't tried them personally, mainly because I am cheap. XR2 are good as a rear if you like micro knobs.

I'm bummed Maxxis discontinued the Minion 3.0. I should have picked up an extra DHF......
Pretty much leaves the Dirt Wizard as the only aggressive tire option.
The DHF 3.0 is still on Maxxis' website.

Before the DHF came out, I was using the DW, but the bead seat was so loose that it kept falling off the rim. I tried dealing with their customer service but it was non-existent so it left me with a bad taste for them. I total respect what they've done for the fat and plus industry though. Have they fixed that issue they had with that tire? I heard others experiencing the same problem. When it stayed on the rim, it was a great tire!

I'll be bummed if I have to go 2.8 on my Trek Full Stache!

Bike is so capable, due in no small part to those massive tires.

If I had to go 2.8 I'd have to chuck a 140/150mm fork up front to keep BB at acceptable height.

Luckily where I live trails are clay/hardpack, dirt based, will the odd bit of loam and occasional man made rock garden. Not too hard on the rubber.

The 29x3.0 went out of production last year, or maybe even before that. They discontinued all 29x3" tires. Where do you see it on the website? https://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-468-140-minion-dhf

Yes, to my knowledge all Surly MTB tires are now "tubeless ready" for the first time. They've updated the tires/bead. https://surlybikes.com/parts/dirt_wizard

Anyone have experience with the Teravail Coronado 29 x 2.8? Tom at Vassago said a 3.0 will not fit in the back of my VerHauen frame.
I have them in stock, but haven't taken the time to install one yet. Nice supple casing. Seems like a better rear tread than front.
