I've head and used the term angry bees to describe the sound of loud hubs. Going up a multi directional trail to day with a lot of switchbacks. I told my wife we need to listen for the Murder Hornets. In our parts, we tend to yeild to downhill riders, since that is why we're all climbing any way šŸ˜‰

I miss having Hope Pro4 hubs. I love the sound and the look on people's faces when they see who's making the noise. :D

The angry bee thing specifically came from King hubs, fwiw.

Which brand of hub do you think sounds more like murder hornets?

I would love completely silent hubs, nothing would be like cruising through the trees on single track by yourself dead silent on a cold morning. I got rid of all my CK's years ago because I can't stand the sound of them.

When my hope hub makes noise, it's telling me I need to pedal and go faster.

Beat me to it, it's been a coined phrase linked to CK for years.

I run CK hubs and they actually do help warn hikers as you approach. Coming up from behind them a simple coast and back pedal alerts them pretty quick.

Ever tried an Onyx?? Silence is golden! For everything else, there's vintage Hugi. Loudest hub ever marketed!

Need some tuned acoustics in this niche. If something must make a noise, try to make it sound nice.

I hate the harsh sound some hubs have. If I'm behind someone with loud hubs, I might be compelled to either consider rudely passing, or letting them create a larger gap in front of me. Profile Elites are probably the worst. Based on my experience with loud hubs, I agree with the "slow hub" name.

I had some hubs that made a cricket or cicada chirping sound, which was quite soothing, in contrast to the mechanically harsh sounding stuff. No matter how hard I try to relate the CK hub sound to angry bees, it still sounds like metal clacking from within its hollow shell.

I rather have a bell than bring noise. It's more polite. I'm mega impressed by silent hubs.

First gen CK's had a completely different sound from the revised ring drive that they made available to the folks that bought em, their hub changed for the louder, lower frequency on every hub since the Gen 1 was introduced. I still have a pair of Gen 1's with the original ring drive in it, makes a higher frequency sound than the later model I have.

Silent means get your wallet out, order an Onyx, deed done!
