Is there a better oil than Rockshox 0-30 WT for servicing the fork lowers on 2019 Lyric 170mm fork, for a light weight rider, 140 pounds including all gear ? Looking for better small bump absorption on slow technical trails. Hi speed downhill the fork comes alive and no complaints. Want to improve low speed small bump absorption. What would be the absolute best oil to use?

The oil expert is undeniably Dougal. If you want to know about oils look at his website Shockcraft.

For lubricating oil Douglal's tip of superglis is on the money.
I almost crashed first corner when using it as the fork was so much more responsive!

If you mean damper oil then that's a different conversation!

Supergliss 100K for 5C and above riding.
Supergliss 68K or 0W40 for around and below zero.

The Motorex 5W40 is the best fit for everything from -15C through to 40C but you can do a bit better by running a different summer and winter bath oil.

Hey Dougal, what do you think of using Mobil One for bath oil. I've been using it for years. A Google search claims it to be the top synthetic oil. BTW Motorex didn't make it in the top 5 list from this one survey.

Mobil regionalise their oils, so the several flavours of Mobil 1 I can buy here do not match those for sale in say North America. I haven't tried them anything.

US reseller: https://www.carid.com/mobil-1/oils-fluids-lubricants/?fromBrandPage=1

"Top Synthetic Oil" doesn't mean anything. It's certainly the most well known where Motorex is a niche brand that the vast majority of people even in the auto industry aren't even aware of. It's biggest presence is in moto via relationships with KTM, Husquvarna etc.

I don't know how Manitou selected the Motorex Powersynt 5W40 back in 2003 for their semi-bath. But recently they tested everything again and it still came out as the best single fill bath lube.

The Manitou Mastodon (fat fork) is rated to perform down to -15C (5F). So their testing is a lot more intensive than other brands.

Thanks for the reply/info Dougal!

Would be interesting to know their method/criteria, I haven't tried the 5w40
I don't know exactly, but I presume stickiness and slipperyness across their temperature range.
Which is something like -15C to 50C.

Supergliss 100k is more slippery, but gets too thick below zero so no good for the fat-bikes. The Powersynt 5W40 gives you one oil for every model and market worldwide.

I'll send you a bottle. It's like Fox 20wt but lubes better.

Dougal, locally I can get Motorex Racing Pro 4T it seems like a more expensive Powersynth. Are you familiar with this stuff? They have 0W40 which seems to be the only full synthetic version. I am thinking of giving it a go.

Dougal I have two Manitou forks on order (mastadon and mezzer). I am ok using Motorex Powersynth 5w40 on both?

I´m not Dougal but yes you can use the same lube for both. And from what I´ve read here before it seems impossible to source supergliss in NA, but if there is a dealer for DTswiss forks in the USA he should be able to get it for you as it´s what they use for lower leg lube.
