How do these two compare? I've heard that the stans neo hubs aren't the most reliable, but not sure what hubs are on the Spank. The oozy's are about 130 grams lighter (~2,000 grams vs ~ 2,130 grams and 1.5mm wider (30.5 vs 29).

What do you think would be more durable and stiff?

I have about six hundred miles or so on my s1 wheelset. I debated on buying an entire new wheelset and spank oozy was one of my choices. However my main concern with the s1 wheelset is the Neo rear hub. In the end I have no complaints with the rims. I ride in rocky Arizona and they've been through some crap and have held up wonderfully. In the end I had my rear wheel relaced with a DT 350 for peace of mind and I saved a buttload of money over a whole new wheelset. If you ride hard or ride in the wilderness I wouldn't trust the stans hub long-term. But that's just me. Obviously I've read the same complaints you have and I prefer to err on the side of caution and durability when it comes to my rear hub. I've blown an XT hub and broke a spring or pawl on a hope hub before and it just ruins your day and leaves you walking (pretty sure I was still able to ride with the broken Hope, but definitely not with the XT)... at least with DT Swiss it's an easy trailside repair if you have spare ratchets.

Anyway long story short, the S1 rims might be a little heavier than most but I don't care and they seem super durable so far. I feel better after replacing the rear hub, that's for sure. Not sure if any of this really helps you though lol

^ thanks, I decided to go with the spanks. Seems like the rims get a lot of great reviews on here. Hopefully the hubs last too but they were only $344 shipped from chain reaction
Is that total price for the complete wheel set?

I was going to simply suggest a custom build with the hub of a choice. You could build them with dt350s for just over $600 probably depending on where you go... Or much more depending on hub choice. But $345? The hoops alone must be $90-100 each.

Yep, complete wheelset - https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/spank-350-mtb-wheelset/rp-prod165508

The hoops are $100 each. Hopefully the hubs last, but if not, I'll probably put a 350 on it.

well that seems like a screaming deal. Worst case scenario is you replace the rear hub down the road but I wouldn't worry about it. I've never bothered worrying about front hubs. There ain't much to them, in fact I left the stans front hub on my current wheel build. It's black like the DT 350 and I'm not too worried about matchy-matchy
Enjoy!

I've been eyeing the Spank wheelsets myself as my rear hub is getting tired. It's original (I think a Formula) laced to WTB asym i29 rims (27.5). The WTB's are bulletproof and I've looked into re-lacing with a DT350 hub but these deals on Spank Oozy and Vibrocore wheelsets are tough to pass up. Spank website has some info on hubs but nothing regarding internal design of pawls, engagement, etc. From what I've researched they sound decent for the price.
