I just got a 11/12 speed M9100 shifter that I'm using with an 11 speed XT derailleur. I find it lighter to downshift than my M8000 and the indexing is more pronounced. The upshifts seem a little stiffer on the M9100.
M9100 shifter and M8000 derailleur? Shimano said it was not supposed to work. :)
I think cable pull and sprocket pitch is different?

Yeah the m8000 shifter is really stiff. The m7000 and m9000 are both much better in that regard.
I actually found a clean second hand M9000 shifter. I'll be getting it early next week. I'll see how that goes.

Honestly if I didn't have an X01 that shifts much lighter and smoother...I'd probably not care and just stick with the XT...but since I do. Lol...this is about as 1st world problem as it gets.:smallviolin:

Hi guys, reviving this old thread to see if the M9000 shifter was significantly easier or not to shift? I need to decide on whether to put an XT shifter/RD on my kids FS 24" bike or decide on a SRAM GX 11sp. I had initially thought the XT would be nice but after reading this, I'm a bit worried that the strength to shift won't be really nice. I'm sure the kid (big 7yro) can do it but I'd like to be ideal since I get to pick.

Any thoughts/Advice?

The XTR did make a noticeable difference in the amount of force it takes to shift. If you can get a good deal on the GX...then get the GX. My GF has a bike with GX 11sp...and it shifts pretty good. Only thing with the 11sp SRAM is that the derailleur will max out at around 46T. The Shimano will go to 50.
