Honestly, I'm surprised the OP ventures outside of their house at all, since moving with a fallout shelter is very hard and the sky could fall at any time :eek:ut: This has got to be THE MOST INSANE thread I've ever read on MTBR, that's counting in stuff by Picard :eek:ut:

And the reason you don't want a metal spring which cannot leak is?...
If an air suspension fork proves to be reliable enough for my riding here, it seems to have some performance advantages. If not, I will replace it because reliability is more important than performance in these conditions. That's true whether hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, or cycling.

I do rides that match your description.

I have never thought about the risk of the air fork failing on ANY of my bikes because the chance of incidence is so low.

In my mind, it's like driving cross country and carrying a spare water pump for your new car, because it could happen.

I would like to commend your tenacity, OP.

I would also like to thank those who provided an answer to the question that wasn't: "It's 1 in a million, just ride." I think this solution, should it prove to be one, is good information to have.

I have a reliability/self sufficiency minded client, much like OP, who rides much Backcountry. He will benefit from suspension, and be glad to hear modern Sus is reliable. But he will also be glad to know hose clamps can get him and his daughter back home.

A CSU is far cheaper than S&R, after all.
