Has anyone tried the Terrene Chunk 27.5x3.0? Any pics? What air pressures do you run? How do you like em? Tough or light?

I ordered two lights. I like a real knobby tire for summer. Im thinking this is my only option, since they don't make a Minion in a 27.5x3.0. I tried the nobby nic but it didn't last at all. It started leaking out the sidewalls and the knobs wore down super fast.

Any pics of the tread?

Really? So how about bumping that fork to 150mm? Better yet, the EXT at max travel would give you a virtual 160mm.

I relaly liked the Mutz with 27.5 x 3, but it was even more fun as a 29 x 3/27.5 x 3, mixxer!

I'd still go with shorter cranks ;)

Mutz still with 27.5x3.0 Maxxis HR2, 26x4.0 Van Helga, or 29x2.5/2,3 DHF.

170mm cranks, 140mm Mastodon.

My 3.0 Chunk Tough is similar in height to 2.8 Magic Mary Soft. The rubber in Chunk is quite hard in the center section hence not the best with wet roots and rocks where tread pattern does not matter. Otherwise a great tyre and true 3.0 width in the nobs. But I'm liking the MM even more. Soft at front, speedgrip at the back. I was thinking about the Hans Damph for the rear but 2.8 was not yet available when I needed a new tyre.

I don't have pics with Chunk and MM side-by-side and my Chunk is not mounted anymore. But like said, they are very similar in height. Chunk is about 78/72 mm in tread/casing and MM is about 70/70 mm. These with i40 rim. Here is photo of Suomi Tyres Fat Freddie 3.0 (i45 rim) vs. Magic Mary 2.8 Soft (i40) side-by-side:

Fat Freddie is probably the highest 27.5x3.0 tyre out there. It's about 1cm higher in radius than Chunk or MM. Or the same height as my 29x2.25 Ice Spiker. Freddie is 74/77 mm wide in tread/casing with that i45 rim.

Just the HRII 27.5x3.0 will be discontinued. A Maxxis rep told me. Yes, the HRII is the only 27.5x3.0 aggressive tire Maxxis makes. I'm a Maxxis fan boy and this upsets me. I was also told they have no plans on a minion 27.5x3.0.

I will be turning to the Chunk for my 3.0s.

I'm running the Chunk Tough 27.5 x 3.0 on a Scraper i45 rim on the back of my hardtail for packed snow riding. I have a On-One Floater 4.0 on a i60mm Marge Lite rim up front.

I think my hardtail could clear a Duro Crux 27.5 x 3.25 if I could find one for sale.

On packed snow, the Chunk does very well for only being a 3.0 tire. I'd like some more volume to match the 26x4 up front. (Thinking I could run lower PSI). Obviously, it doesn't float like fat - but that wasn't the point. I wanted to get rowdy on packed snow trails a few times a year

I ran Chunks all spring and summer long- tough casing. I had zero tubeless setup problems, and when I pulled them off, I only found one puncture from a piece of metal. Grip was really high, but I thought the rolling resistance was a much. I recently put a set of Mcfly's on for the Fall, and have been happy with them- but when we get the first real snow I'm putting my Chunks back on!

The Highroller is 1/2" to 3/4" taller than a Chunk and about the same width. The Highroller is more like a true plus tire and the Chunk is more like a 2.8 with a 3.0 width... meaning a lot less sidewall.

The Highroller is more forgiving and has a little more bounce than the Chunk. Id say the Chunk has a little more traction, but hardly noticeable in most conditions. You really have to lean the Highroller over in corners, due to the void in tread, until the side tread takes over. The Chunk just has traction all the time and rolls a little slower.

I hope this helps. I haven't had much ride time but this is what I have so far.

The Chunk is quite the grippy SOB. As mentioned, slower rolling than others. But, on packed snow, the Chunk is the grippiest tire I've ridden. For my packed snow needs, I like that the Chunk has big square blocks without any ramping - Great in both forward traction and braking.

Compared to the Chunk - Surly Dirt Wizard and HR2 are probably a toss up on which has higher ultimate cornering grip than the Chunk. Splitting hairs, really.
