DIY using Lflex and 20mm housing- any reason to update?

I built quite a few lights for my buddies that ran on lfex drivers or Mobydrv using the finned 20mm housing, and XML2 emitters.

The first were Matt’s Sled light designs too.
I also did some triple XPG2 emitters.

These days you can get a pretty good light already built for what the parts used to cost.

Is there any spiffy update to LEDs that would make another build worthwhile?

I know there are some good flood options, but for a floody light I’d prefer a multi-emitter bar light.

Here I’m looking for efficiency and throw for helmet light.

The XPL-HI is my favorite emitter for a throwy light. Combined with the narrow optic from LED-DNA makes a really nice helmet beam in 20mm size. I keep telling myself to test the -HI with a Regina reflector but like so many things the idea sits on a back burner somewhere. Just have a feeling that would be a really good combination though.

a few minor things that I can think of - the XP-L2 LEDs and the new 20700 li-ion batteries. Mainly it's the usual deal of reliabilty, customisation and tint choice, but you already know that

Last time I got them was from here....

CREE XP-L HI V3 3C LED on Noctigon 20mm MCPCB

3C tint is pretty good IMO.

Hmm, they have triple XPL-hi too.
Worth doing a triple? Probably just run in parallel with the same driver.

Depends on what you want in a beam shape. The tightest 20mm triple optic makes a floodlight with XPGs. Don't imagine it does much, if any, better with an XPL-HI.

Oh, OK good point. I'm thinking more throw than flood, so domeless XPL-Hi is probably the way to go.

17mm DrJones H17Fx Driver w/ lucidrv2 - 7135 + FET

Might be a new version of the mobydrv. Never used one so not sure.

Lucidrv is meant for clicky switches, not momentary. It's more of a flashlight driver.

DrJones Mobydrv drivers had a few more features I liked, and were smaller and cheaper.
