Hi,

I’ve jumped back on the 27.5 + train for loose, rocky and root strewn places. I was riding a trail covered with golf ball->basket ball sized chunky jagged rock and struggled quite a bit. The depths of the debris were around 3-4 inches deep...

When the rock thinned out and things got rootier riding was far easier and the bike smashed..

I’ve searched on the internet for reviews of these tires and came up with nothing in terms of PSI.

What are you guys running for tire pressures in various terrain situations ?

For the rooty/ thinner rock coverage spots I was running 16 F / 17 rear.

The issues I’ve found with plus is when the pressure get lower grip depreciates greatly... there’s a magical sweet spot!

Thanks! 🙏

I weigh 215 geared up. On my 27.5+ I run 16f 18r for gravel and 18f 20r for the rougher stuff. But you are correct. It seems there is a magic sweet spot for you and your bike setup. A single psi can make the difference from what I have read. Too much and it's too bouncy and too little and its squishy and rush flats more.

I haven't had the 2.8 Minions, but I've run 2.4's, as well as some non-Maxxis plus tires. On a proper width rim (i.e. not a plus tire on a 23mm rim, which I've done, LOL) with a standard tire (not DH or otherwise extra heavy casings): I'm around 20/25 for 'aggressive trail' (>XC singletrack) with standard tires, and only go down to maybe 15/20 for plus. Lower would certainly be rideable and maybe give some tractional gains, but the chances of ruining something are too high for my liking. The only rim and tire I've trashed from a square hit was running like 18psi in a 27.5x2.5.

I'm 190lbs, BTW.

I just built a 27.5+ and I am playing with pressure.

I weigh 175 lbs

Tried 11 front and rear yesterday. Felt a bit too squirrelly in the corners but comfort and straight line grip was great. Going out tonight to test 12. Think that may be my magic number.

Adding an update for anyone else interesting in pressure suggestions on these tires. For "regular" trail conditions (not doing a lot of jumping, a few rocks but not miles of sharp edged rock gardens) I've been running 14R/12F. For enduro-style days, 16R/14F, and for jump/super technical days, 18R/16F. I weigh about 175. I have dinged rims landing 2-3 foot drops onto rocks at the lower pressures.
