I just got a bike with mechanical disc brakes, think they are tektro. wondering a rough idea how long pads last since they dont look like they can be very thick like pads on my hummer.
how long to disc pads typically last?

Not unless they're damaged or worn beyond spec width (too thin).

The Tectros take minutes to replace. Take off the wheel, remove the single bolt that holds the pads, pop in new pads, replace bolt and wheel. Easier than rim brakes.

never had a bike with disc before, so its good to know that maintenance isnt a big issue

It's so easy to look inside the caliper and guesstimate pad wear it has become part of the pre-ride check, or while wiping down the bike. Don't even have to pull the wheel with the Shimano lower tier brakes I've owned should they need service.

mine lasted for about 2000 kms. by the way the pads are resin. there's no long descent where I ride. but the trail is muddy and moist most of the time. i replaced them with metal pads. i'll see how long they will last.
