Does anyone have both the Eagle GX and the Eagle x01 shifter by chance? I recently moved my drivetrain to eagle GX, and while the larger downshift lever feels great, the smaller upshift trigger feels soft to me. I'm coming from a x01 11 speed shifter, which required much more trigger effort, but felt much crisper. Does the x01 eagle shifter return the crispness? Or is the soft trigger persistent across all the 12 speed shifters now?

GX and NX use bushings in the shifter. The X1, XO1, and XX1 use bearings. Probably the reason why the higher end shifters feel crisper.
Yes, which would explain some difference if the downshift/big lever felt a bit sloppy. It doesn't. GX now includes zero loss, and it feels as tight as my x01 11 speed did.

To my knowledge, there are no bearings in the upshift trigger. It feels like a simple sear.

Also, in 12 speed, NX and X1 need not apply. While you're correct that the GX has a bushing, the internal differences between GX and x01 are much closer on 12 speed than they were on 11 speed.

Sorry don't have both to compare, but from my experience, I always just go with the best possible shifter I can justify. I'm running an X01 eagle shifter with the GX eagle rear mech and it feels great.

Yes, I do agree with you guys that a better shifter is always welcome, and historically Ive always done this in the past. I have three x01 shifters in 11 speed flavor.

But in this case, there's over 100 dollar difference between the two, and it appears that the GX has made great strides closing the gap. The shifters are much more similar both inside and out than they have been in previous generations.

Anyway, in previous generations, the shift feel was greatly improved on the big lever, but the small trigger was very similar between GX and x01. If the small trigger feel is still similar between the 12 speed variants, there's no way I could justify he price difference since the big lever feels very good (I dont typically change the angle).

I lied, it was an X1 11 speed shifter. There was a noticeable quality difference between the X1 11 speed and the X01 11 speed I had. The X01 12 speed feels similar and slightly higher quality to the X01 11 speed and doesnt have the vague downshift that the X1 had.

I rode both the GX Eagle and X01 Eagle shifters numerous times on different bikes and even though the X01 Shifter feels a little more crisp I prefer the cheaper GX shifter for ergonomic reasons as the lower thumb paddle is grippier and straighter (the X01 paddle has a more slippery, rounded surface)

yes you can set the angle of the lower paddle on the X01 but that is not an issue for me

I have Eagle GX on one bike and XO1 on another. I feel like the shifting is incrementally tighter on XO1, but that could be imaginary. They’re pretty closely matched.

I have GX and X01 on two bikes. I had NX. NX is floppy and sloppy compared the GX and X01. GX and X01 are very close. I can tell the difference scrutinizing it in the work stand, but not while riding. Even with NX, the only time I noticed it while riding was when I tried to notice it.

stop mixing 11speed and 12speed groups

with Sram 12 speed the shifter difference between GX and X01 got much smaller and is negligible from a pure functional standpoint if you don't need the angle adjustment feature of the thumb paddle, considering the X01 is nearly three times as expensive (in Germany) I don't see why anyone would get X01 apart from medical reasons ("I need to have the best...")

I have to agree, the 11 speed stuff just isn't pertinent to the topic at hand. The 12 speed stuff appears to be very, very similar.

I am quite impressed with the downshift feel of the eagle gx shifter, its the small upshift trigger that no longer "breaks like glass". I guess without comparing the parts in person, side by side, its all just speculation.

But having put 50 more miles on the GX shifter this weekend, there's no way I can justify the upcharge for the x01. The big paddle feels absolutely fantastic, and now that I'm getting a bit more used to the reduced shift effort on the small trigger, I'm finding it to be plenty crisp and quick enough.
